It's mind-blowing to me that we still don't really understand how _friction_ works. Glad to see that @nyutandon students are figuring it out! Can't wait to learn the deets.

On the tenth anniversary of Hurricane Sandy, NYU's chief sustainability officer @cecilscheib breaks down the misleading term "100-year flood." Hint: it doesn't mean that a Sandy-like "superstorm" can only come every hundred years: https://t.co/CISbhhnVvD

Only 3 podcasts are "must listen *every* week" for me, and @faqnyc is one of them. So happy to be part of @THECITYNY reporting on the 10yr Sandy anniversary and my work with @UrbanGreen making buildings more resilient.

"When you roll the dice, you could roll snake eyes five times in a row. And that could happen for hurricanes too." —NYU's @cecilscheib on the misleading term "100-year flood" and the likelihood of another #Sandy:

In a special episode of @FAQNYC, @THECITYNY's Samantha Maldonado and climate reporter Kendra Pierre-Louis look at the damage Hurricane Sandy caused 10 years ago in Coney Island and around the city, and the construction that’s followed. https://t.co/bRRVvh2TOC

This went way more viral on IG and TikTok with over 10,000 likes - on Twitter, just a few dozen likes, which says it all about where students are on SM. Still funny even on Twitter though.

By the year 2040, NYU will be climate neutral. What will that look like on campus? In April 2023, we'll be exploring that question during 2040 Now—a university-wide initiative to envision and create a sustainable future. 🌎 https://t.co/n2VXYHEafv

Recognize scenes like this? If you live in NYC you do. We're now at 2.4 million packages delivered here daily, thanks to the explosion in e-commerce. It's blocking streets, sidewalks, bike lanes & bus stops. And it's only getting worse. Here's our plan to fix this.🧵

New Yorkers are tired of living with mountains of trash on the sidewalk. Yesterday I joined @nyuniversity and @UnionSquareNY to unveil a containerized waste pilot on 15th Street, funded through the @NYCSanitation Clean Curbs pilot that we fought for.

If containerized trash doesn't make you do jazz hands, you're not doing it right. What a couple of snazzy guys I got to stand with today! @ebottcher @EdJanoff

@ebottcher is exactly right. We have a sanitation crisis and we need #Trash off the sidewalk and into #CleanCurbs. Kudos to @nyuniversity @UnionSquareNY for making this happen. Let’s expand this all over the city @NYCMayor!

Love this @FDNY fire truck specifically designed for tight spaces. Spotted at Feast of @SanGennaroNYC because Mulberry Street is packed w/vendors & people end to end. I would love to see these stationed around city. @NYCMayor & @NYCCouncil can we have more of these please?

This @ezraklein stat from today's NYT on renewables land use seems to pretty badly misrepresent the study it cites, and the below thread from @cecilscheib adds much needed context. Notably, the land "directly impacted" by wind turbines is *much, much* smaller than what's printed.

@mattyglesias @ezraklein This is a provocative quote so I looked up the source material - and got a pretty different take on things. (1/8)

Most IRA coverage is about the energy, building, and transportation sectors - but few understand the importance of food systems in reaching our goals. ⁦@matthewhayek⁩ lays it out plainly here - must read! ⁦@nyuniversity
