A message from Fountain Walker, Vice President for Global Campus Safety, to the NYU community: . Late yesterday afternoon, the University was alerted that a prayer room used by NYU’s Muslim community was vandalized. (1/5).

A statement on the vandalization of a prayer room used by NYU’s Muslim community:

The University will work closely with law enforcement as they pursue their investigation. (3/3).

The University’s IT team responded immediately, and the University notified law enforcement. The malicious redirection was brought to a halt, the webpage the attackers established was taken down, and NYU’s website is once again online and available. (2/3).

Shortly after 10:00 a.m. ET today, malicious hackers took control of the systems that display NYU’s web presence and redirected traffic to NYU’s site to a webpage the hackers created. (1/3).

Campus Advisory: A winter storm on the morning of Thursday, Feb. 6, is expected to bring snow and freezing rain. All community members should check their email, University social accounts, and the NYU Alerts page in case of changes to NYU operations.

It's freezing out. 🥶 Museums are warm, and these 10 are free to NYU students with ID. 🤩 How many will you visit this year?

New semester, new opportunities! We stopped by the NYU Action Lab to see how they prepare for students to resume studying infant and child behavior. 👶 🍼 . In the lab, students work with faculty and staff to record and code behavior for a large-scale data collection initiative.

Now that the Supreme Court has issued a decision in TikTok, Inc. v. Garland that upholds the ban passed by Congress, @nyulaw's Christopher Sprigman is weighing in on free speech concerns and the future of social media regulation:

"AI systems often lack input from experts who deeply understand the specific domains they are designed to influence," writes Rumi Chunara, who teaches computer science and serves as the director of NYU's Center for Health Data Science.
