Excellent feedback recently on my "Central Pacific" map, which some are now calling the "funnel map." To the conversation about island geography, I would add my 2019 JFQ piece on the "Second Island Cloud." Download printable maps and get article links at https://t.co/lF7YNA5cGR

The Israeli policy in Syria is very similar to the American one in Venezuela. Creating a crisis out of nothing in order to manufacture a war for political purposes.
The IDF’s elite alpinist unit, the 810th Mountain Brigade, operated this morning on the Syrian side of Mount Hermon amid Storm Byron and rising tensions with the Syrian regime, following Israel’s continued troop deployment in the area and the ongoing failure to reach a security

If you want to ban foreign tourism, just say so. Don't demand that tourists prove they've never criticized the Dear Leader like some creepy Maoist cult. Oh, and good luck with the 2026 World Cup, or ever getting the Olympics or another international event here again.
The Trump administration plans to require all foreign tourists to provide their social media histories from the last five years to enter the country, according to a notice published in the Federal Register.

Another map for Pearl Harbor Day, from six years ago. Originally inspired by Japanese maps that put the Pacific (east) at the top, another inspiration was thinking about the Great Circle route from Japan to Hawaii and forcing a new perspective of the Central Pacific.

Although the tension has increased with MAGA demands, Mexico has long had an ambiguous relationship with China and been more a competitor than collaborator for access to the US market.

This also means that the world will have to judge Japan as a whole by her actions, not just an extreme right wing cabal of LDP politicians and associates.
Japanese PM Takaichi has a whopping 84% approval rating among people under the age of 60. She works hard, comes across as humble, and seems genuine. Good role model for politicians.

One of the unsavoury aspects of the US approach is the way family members are frequently penalised for the perceived sins of a principal. More the kind of thing we used to associate with North Korea.

You will have to be pretty keen or desperate to accept such terms for a visit to the US. Many will have no option, but others will exercise their right not to be pigeon holed and slighted.
Asking tourists to volunteer 5 years of their social media history, and granting them entrance based on whether right-wing bureaucrats personally agree with their personal posts is what authoritarian regimes do. This will decimate U.S. tourism.

The idea that China’s growing trade surplus is driven primarily by a depreciating currency — rather than by rising manufacturing efficiency — is deeply flawed. Dozens of other developing countries have tried weakening their currencies to boost manufactured exports, yet none have
