Good to see some details here. Once again, this is equal to the electricity consumption of the entire state of Utah.
Missed this yesterday: Joule Capital Partners, a data center developer, and Caterpillar announced an agreement for CAT to supply 2.5MW G3520K generator sets for prime power at a 4GW data center that will be built in Utah starting in 2026. In addition to the generators, the energy

More silliness from the Energy Secretary. The *market* is building wind because it delivers more value than it costs. Yeah - tax credits offset a piece of the cost, but those are going away and we’ll see how it goes without them. Either way - there’s no need to block anything.
President Trump is spot on: Windmills are a train wreck. They are subsidized, inefficient, unreliable, land hogs that drive up electricity prices. America needs affordable, reliable, and secure energy that works 24/7, not just when the wind blows.

Yes - and also tariffs are the form of taxation that’s most prone to public corruption.
Also, a reminder that the real problem of tariffs is not that they’re a tax, (we have plenty of taxes and what the mix of them should be is not obvious) rather the problem is trade is good and with tariffs we get less of it. Comparative advantage is real. The whole global pie is.

Exactly. We need permitting reform for all kinds of energy projects. But how can you talk legislators into making a deal when they can't trust the President to honor it?.
If Democrats want permitting reform, they'll have to go through Trump first. “How can I even make a deal on energy unless I get some assurance that will be honored by the President?” @ScottPetersSD tells @MattZeitlin. Full article below, feat. @ppavnr:.

The graph formerly known as the “duck curve.” Now missing its head.
Yesterday, California reached a new record for battery output, surpassing 11 GW for the first time. At 7:15 PM, California's grid scale batteries discharged 11.17 GW, meeting 28.2% of grid power demand ⚡️. California is enjoying midday solar power in the evening ☀️

“The Interior Department's directives on wind and solar projects have halted energy development across Nevada, Republican Gov. Joe Lombardo complained — the latest sign that the Trump administration's moves to hamstring renewable power are causing friction with political allies.”.
A Republican governor has joined the intraparty conflict over the Trump's wind & solar policies. NV Gov Lombardo told Interior Sec Burgum his order has "frozen" solar projects on federal, state & private land -- and urged Burgum to soften restrictions.

They’re talking about a 4 GW datacenter! Where are they going to get the power? That’s equal to the consumption of the entire state of Utah. They must be planning on rescuing IPP’s 1.9 GW of capacity. No idea where the rest is going to come from.
Millard County recently approved a rezone of 1,100 acres of agricultural land, paving the way for Fibernet MercuryDelta to construct what they're calling the largest data center in the U.S in Delta. Some residents are concerned about water usage.

Waitjustaminute. I’m sure I was told by people on the internet that solar was worthless and made the grid more complicated and expensive ….
Heat index in Houston is 111. Air conditioning demand is high. Gas & coal plant outages are up sharply. But prices in Texas are the lowest in the country ($20/MWh). Why? Texas' nation leading solar resources are generating >30% of the power needed on peak. #txlege #txenergy

Respectful exchanges don’t happen often enough on this site. It’s worth highlighting when they do. Kudos to both.
@ramez To be clear the supply chain constraints are real, not least of which because there is a rush to build with limited supply. True on the renewables side as well. And no doubt if you're walking off the street looking to buy a gas turbine the wait time may be quite long and even.
