Remembering this legendary tenure today. By 3 Dec 1972, when Wg Cdr Cecil Vivian Parker handed over No 20 Sqn, his Hunters had already carved history: 17 aircraft and 18 pilots at Pathankot, and a 1971 campaign that made the Lightnings the most decorated squadron in the IAF.

Let us learn fm history. The ABM Treaty banned nationwide defences & limited each side to just one ABM site to preserve nuclear balance. Reagan’s crazy ‘Star Wars’ vision of shield for CONUS challenged the treaty, forced USSR into financial ruin & accelerated its collapse.

It seems that Sri Lanka’s International Fleet Review was disrupted by cyclone ‘Ditwah’, & Vikrant put out to sea in order to participate in Op ‘Sagar Bandhu’ mounted by India to render HADR to neighbouring Sri Lanka.

Another example of open minded & ‘ultimate Jointness’: 617 Sqn RAF, equipped with the F-35B STOVL fighter operated from RN carriers with mixed RAF/RN crew. In 2020 command of the Sqn was given to a Royal Navy officer!

UK First Sea Lord (uniquely a Royal Marine General!) is hinting at a trait, often seen amongst the overly ambitious. Termed, crudely, as the “kiss-up; piss-down” syndrome, it can fool the system & invariably delivers “toxic” leaders. But is “360 deg” appraisal the answer?

Uncalled for negativity👇. Peer light wt fighter, Swedish Gripen: developed with US help, carries GE engine, Marconi radar. Prototype crashed within a yr. Two crashes at air displays (1993/2017). Yet bought by 5 countries. Let’s keep faith in our Tejas.
