I am finding Twitter an increasingly intolerant site, long on anger, and short on reasoned debate. As a rule, I now rarely, if ever, engage here beyond posting blog threads or retweets. Its nothing personal, I just don't find that this site brings me joy anymore.

As part of 1980s war planning, this is the RAF Support Command list of essential requirements that it required funding for - mattresses, bunks and sheets! . 15,000 bunk spaces would be needed in under a week - an enormous challenge.

Triumph was an odd ship - converted for East of Suez duties, she was a legacy of a lost world. In 1971 though the RN planned to use her as a mini carrier to assist in planned NEO from Africa as part of contingency planning.

Rare archives find - in 1970s, RN transition to war plans called for towing the mothballed maintenance carrier HMS TRIUMPH to the Clyde to act as an emergency maintenance base. A reminder she would likely have been of little use in the Falklands.

A chilling 1970s MOD vision of the likely targets that the replacement for the WE177 series of tactical nuclear weapons would be intended to destroy.

A great article by @TomSharpe134. As someone who used to be an optimist about the prospects for the RN in the 2020s, I reluctantly find myself in complete agreement with his findings.

In 1973 the MOD began working on a TOP SECRET intelligence history of WW2, before ULTRA became public knowledge. Incredibly, this project remained highly classified, with even mention of its existence classified as CONFIDENTIAL due to the need to protect ULTRA decades later.

The 1971 directive to the Commander of the SAS Squadron in Oman, on his mission to support the Sultan of Omans Armed Forces. At this time the FCO was pushing heavily for a 2nd SAS squadron to be deployed in addition to existing RAF forces at Salalah airfield.
