Dear Academics,
Please stop doing research "on/for" South Asian communites for the sake of health equity.
Research "with" comunities begins when they are asked by THEM vs. US.
Also, please stop inviting me to join your team so I can help with recruitment.

Proudly wore South Asian attire as I presented on decolonization in the global health classroom for global health week at
@mcgillu
. I had to think twice because that’s what we are conditioned to do especially as 2nd gen immigrants.
I could feel my grandma smiling from above. 😇
So tired of South Asians in Canada being OVER-RESEARCHED as a monolith community- particularly by privileged academics who are often non-South Asian in the attempt to pathologize us with a saviour & colonial mindset.
There are many published papers ON us I want retracted. ❌
The one thing I started doing for all my invited presentations at conferences is writing my name in Bengali as a small step for me to decolonize and honour my ancestral language.

students today in class with fresh and hot samosas from Ram Sweet Shop in Montreal given the stressful time of the end of the semester.
Best part was when one student took the Auntie role in disrupting the tamarind sauce to everyone to avoid a mess. 😇❤️
Late night working with a colleague on a grant proposal at my place. Felt like we were back at our university days working on class projects.
Also bonded intellectually and socially over chai, samosas, tamarind sauce and bourbon cookies. ❤️

Travelled virtually across 🇨🇦 to talk about the crisis in 🇮🇳 on

1. 🇨🇦 gov't provide aid now & support patent waivers for vaccines.
2. People in 🇨🇦 can't blame 🇮🇳 or its citizens for B1617.
3. Indians in 🇨🇦 constant despair for our families back home.
Quebec confirms first case of B.1.617 variant from India. This makes me nervous that South Asians in Canada are going to be hit with an escalated level of racism as we cope with our own 3rd wave and help families batting the 2nd wave back home.
