Studying why and how behavior evolves, from mosquitoes to mole-rats | Leon Levy Scholar @Columbia @IshmailSaboor | PhD @Princeton @LindyMcBr | 麻布高/東大 alum 🇯🇵
NYC/Princeton/Tokyo
Joined June 2015
Thrilled to be named a Leon Levy Scholar @NYASciences! With my inspiring mentor @IshmailSaboor, I’ll tackle genetic, neuronal, and evolutionary questions about fascinating social behaviors in naked mole-rats. Looking forward to joining the vibrant community of neuroscientists!
Congratulations to the 2025 #LeonLevyScholars!🎉 Announcing the 2025 #LeonLevyScholars, in partnership with the Leon Levy Foundation. Recipients participate in a multi-year postdoctoral program to advance their careers. Read more about the Scholars: https://t.co/6bZFpZPHKA

My postdoc work is now on bioRxiv! We combined engineered bacteria with hydrogels to create implantable living materials. These living materials safely confine microbes while enabling them to sense disease and release drugs on demand. 🔗 https://t.co/F516m9LzCv

Our first paper on naked mole-rats has just been published in Science Advances!! By tagging each individual, we comprehensively recorded the behavior of over 100 animals for 30 days and statistically characterized their complex social structure.

Our immune system is an evolutionary masterpiece. Every day it protects us from the thousands of different viruses, bacteria and other microbes that attempt to invade our bodies. Without a functioning immune system, we would not survive. One of the immune system’s marvels is its

Excited to share our new paper in @NatureComms! We discovered a molecular morphological convergence: distinct alcohol-aldehyde dehydrogenases independently evolved similar homomeric complexes. See threads for a brief introduction. Paper: https://t.co/BE4fZPNLtf

Had a wonderful time at @BardCollege giving an invited seminar in the Biology Seminar series! Really enjoyed conversations with the curious students and amazing faculty, plus a walk around the gorgeous campus. The Hudson Valley view en route was the cherry on top.

Excited to share the first part of my PhD! Place cells encode location not only by firing rates but also by spike timing relative to theta oscillations. We asked how different spatial cues (i.e., landmarks & self-motion cues) contribute to determining this precise timing.
