No amount of clapping or cheering or calling healthcare workers heroes meant a damn thing if you undo all our work with your shitty, irresponsible behavior now.
Just reminding everyone that with ectopic pregnancies, the only possible outcomes are the fetus dies or both woman and fetus die. There is no possible outcome where the fetus can survive. The only question is if the woman is made to die along with it.
It says everything about the ghouls in the Trump campaign that they think a picture of their opponent lovingly holding his now-dead son as a child is some kind of own.
If you are in healthcare and would refuse care a person needs because of your religion:
1) your religion sucks
2) you need to find a line of work where your bigotry won’t stand in the way of people getting the care they deserve
I finally completed an administrative task that has been hanging over my head for weeks. I took my about ten minutes of actual work/attention. I felt my anxiety drop like a rock as soon as it was finished.
I will learn nothing from this.
Since
@chrislhayes
is talking about Trump’s lies about coronavirus testing, let me state plainly again: I am a doctor in an area with a known nearby coronavirus outbreak. I have absolutely no way of ordering or directly accessing tests for my patients if they show symptoms.
It was not homophobic to report on Kevin Spacey's predatory history.
It is not homophobic to report on Bryan Singer's predatory history.
It will never be homophobic to report on anyone's past or present predatory behavior, because there is nothing predatory about being gay.
If I were to be given one pandemic wish, it would be that nurses would finally be recognized as the bedrock of medical care, and given the respect their absolutely indispensable work deserves.
Don’t book RFK Jr. to talk about vaccines. Don’t book Cruz or Paul or Hawley et al to talk about the election. Don’t book Kellyanne Conway to talk about anything.
It’s not journalism to give liars a platform. Stop booking them.
Mehmet Oz, whom Trump is appointing as a health adviser, says that he yearns for the days “when our ancestors lived in small villages and there was always a healer in that village.”

There are many ways in which I believe life is going to get better again, sooner or later, but I don't think I will ever recover from the experience of seeing how very many people in this country abjectly and adamantly refuse to do the very least little thing for the public good.
Look, I can barely get to work on time with a decent outfit and moisturizer on. Kudos to this person if they can show up for class having gone to the trouble to look this amazing.
There is no conversation to be had about forced birth. There is no conversation to be had about my husband and me having equal protection under the law. There is no conversation to be had about the summary execution of Black people at the hands of police officers.
Do not make jokes about Madison Cawthorn being gay. Do not make jokes about Lindsey Graham being gay. Justifiably detesting someone for their wretched politics does not render your homophobic jokes somehow acceptable. It is exhausting to have to keep saying this.
Nothing says “headed in the right direction as a society” quite like seeing fellow physicians in my replies wrestling with the question of risking a prison sentence if performing a life-saving procedure were a felony in the state where they practice.
A father told me today that our conversation was the first he had heard that the Covid vaccines were developed using research that has been going on for years. I really wish the media had included that information more clearly earlier in the pandemic.
I. Cannot. Believe. I. Have. To. Repeat. Myself. About. This.
I tweet pictures of food I am making because it brings me joy to cook and share. If you do not like what I am making, silently abide in the comfort that I will not make you eat it.
Do not be rude. I will block you.
Really blows my mind that the same crowd who told me growing up that you could hear satanic messages in rock music if you played it backward can’t seem to suss out what the President means by “do me a favor.”
It is very important as a pediatrician to have a favorite:
1) dinosaur (triceratops)
2) bug (dragonfly)
3) superhero (Storm)
4) animal (tiger)
5) princess (tie between Rapunzel in Tangled and Moana)
because one never knows when it will come up in conversation
A dad, whose child usually comes in with his mother, told me they talk all the time about the care I provide, and he wanted to take the opportunity to say thank you, and made me fully cry in the exam room.
I cannot believe this needs saying (AGAIN!), but since this lie, equal parts hideous and ludicrous, keeps getting spread, I'll say it again: as a pediatrician, I ASSURE you that no baby is electively "aborted" after birth. Doesn't happen. Not a thing. 100% lie.
Just want to take a moment to honor this person who is allergic to lipids, is by extension dead because physiology, but has maintained a social media presence regardless. That’s real fortitude, y’all.

It absolutely floors me that any woman in this country could support the Republican Party. Just like they hate me, they hate you, too. How is this not completely obvious to everyone?
Tonight’s Uber driver asked how long my husband and I have been together, and when I told him 15 years he asked if we met in high school, and I have just tipped him my entire IRA.
With all due respect to Jon Stewart, the name I hear most often when a parent or patient tells me where they heard something that makes them not want the Covid vaccine is the Spotify podcaster, so I’m not inclined to contribute to the profits of the company that pays him.
I'd like to congratulate "Kamala Harris uses earbuds with wires" as a late-breaking but strong contender for the coveted Most Goddamn Inane Non-Story of 2021 Are You Fucking Kidding Me? award.
Just a reminder that when ICUs are overwhelmed with Covid cases, it doesn’t just mean they don’t have capacity to admit any more patients with Covid. Heart attacks, strokes, car accidents, you name it, it means there’s no capacity for those patients, either.
A notable shift downward in projected deaths from coronavirus is already being spun as "experts were wrong!!" instead of "hey, the thing experts said would drive down deaths might be driving down deaths."
Good morning to everyone, but especially the little boy just now who was very excited to tell me that today (TODAY!) is the day his friend is coming over so they can watch a cement mixer pouring a new foundation together.
Hard to make the argument that Christians in America are persecuted for their beliefs when a supermajority of Supreme Court justices were appointed for the specific purpose of forcing those beliefs on the rest of us.
Medical tidbit: there are tests that can be run and resulted in the span of minutes to differentiate RSV from Covid (ran several yesterday), so anyone who speculates the increase in pediatric Covid cases are misdiagnosed RSV is someone whose opinion you can disregard.
A few weeks ago, I started asking my BIPOC patients and parents if they've been affected by racism, or if there were racism-related health problems I need to be providing care for. It's not something I was ever trained to do, and I regret it took me this long to start.
There has ~got~ to be some minimal standard of veracity that prevents the paper of record from publishing a piece, opinion or otherwise, that refers to the removal of an ectopic pregnancy as it being "delivered." Its publication was journalistic malpractice.
Today, we shared positive pre-clinical data demonstrating our ability to combine 6 mRNAs against 3 different respiratory viruses in 1 vaccine: COVID-19 booster + Flu booster + RSV booster.

I hope this does not come across as whining, but I find myself needing to say that I have never experienced the kind of stress as a medical provider that I feel right now, and I know I’m not alone. If you have a loved one in the medical field, now’s a good time to reach out.
I do not care how righteous you think your pandemic point is, mocking the dead or writing them off because of age or infirmity is hideously, despicably ghoulish.
The Venn diagram of people who lose their shit if you don’t use the precise right word for their winter holiday and people who lose their shit when asked to use someone’s correct pronouns is a perfect circle.
The world's whitest paint has been created in a lab at Purdue. Scientists say it's so white that it could eventually reduce the need for air conditioning.
The medical treatments we offer to trans kids as they enter puberty have effects that are fully reversible once those treatments are stopped. We offer those treatments to them then to prevent physical changes that are irreversible without them.
Good Morning. Can anybody name a single institution or endeavor that spans political and cultural divides — that unites the country around something positive?
All of these videos I see of people supposedly convulsing because of Covid vaccine injuries are genuinely fantastic teaching examples of pseudoseizures. Neurology instructors, take note!
Dear Internet —
This is 100% unalloyed horseshit.
If children are not smiling at Naomi Wolf, it’s not that they’ve forgotten how, it’s that they’re trying to back away from her slowly without doing anything that might startle her.
❤️,
your friendly Twitter pediatrician
Dear parents of children over 18:
Please do not get pissy with your child's medical provider if, in the absence of a signed release, they need to speak directly to your legal-adult offspring, and not you. Turns out there's a federal law.
Smooches,
Dan
It’s almost as though verification wasn’t created to be some kind of status symbol, but was the result of a lawsuit against Twitter because someone was impersonating a professional athlete. Amazing that the new owner of the joint doesn’t grasp this.
Just heard on NPR that Broadway’s vaccine requirement will include a religious exemption, which means they may as well scrap it entirely. Vaccine refusers will simply cite it, so why bother? I don’t care what the non-medical reason for not getting it, no shot no show.
Seventeen years ago, my husband and I celebrated the first of two wedding ceremonies. (The second came with rights we will not lose gently.) Happy anniversary to the man who is truly the love of my life.
Hi hello hi there! “Real MD”-haver here! Failing to respect the academic achievements of people who earned doctorates in their respective fields is not only incredibly dickish, but merely reveals one’s own ignorance of academic achievement!
We said goodbye to our pal Max tonight. We got sixteen and a half years to enjoy having him in our family, and will miss his sweet, mischievous place in our lives, but he was very tired and it was time to let him go.
He was a very good boy.
A patient's father just told me a conversation with me is what convinced his now fully vaccinated wife to get the COVID vaccine, and she passed on the conversation to her friends, and so at least three people got vaccinated as a result, and I am over the moooooooon.
Millennials! I have a question for you specifically!
How many of you have any sense or memory of the concept of a "rerun"? Do you have any meaningful recollection of an episode of TV you watched being such a thing?
I cannot believe it has come to this.
@cvspharmacy
Caremark is refusing to cover a medication they had previously authorized after "clinical review." My patient has been on this medication their entire life, has highly complex medical conditions, and this is egregious.
Hello. I would very much LIKE the science to get in the way of prematurely opening schools during the pandemic because I’d rather greet as few kids as possible dressed this way.
I never thought the day would come where being a dual citizen was something I’d have to nail down as a possible exit plan for my family. But here we are.
Apparently this will come as a shock to some people out there, but medicines can be very good for one thing and no good at all for other things. Some of us even took classes about how to choose the right ones!
Just a quick thought. Even if you’re a woman, and the other person is very plainly a gay man, if he’s visibly uncomfortable with how you are touching and dancing up against him, stop doing that.
❤️,
a plainly gay man
