On this day in 1944, the Polish 1st Independent Parachute Brigade jumped at Driel to join the fight against the Germans. Its sacrifice would be in vain, but it will always be remembered. 🇵🇱🇳🇱#MarketGarden #Sosabowski

On this day in 1945 operation Manna started. 6,680 tons of food was dropped into the occupied western part of the Netherlands, to help feed Dutch civilians in danger of starvation. 3,301 sorties were flown by British Mosquitoes and Lancaster bombers. Thank you Tommies! 🇬🇧🇳🇱 #WW2

Just your casual reminder that the Dutch Royal Navy had an aircraft carrier (1948-1968). Wouldn’t it be great to have a one again? @kon_marine

On my way to the commemoration of the Waal River crossing. On this day in 1944 US paratroopers of the 504 regiment rowed across the Waal at Nijmegen, while under German fire. 200 paratroopers were killed. The attack was later nicknamed "Little Omaha". #MarketGarden80 🇺🇸🤝🇳🇱

Because of the courage that was shown by the British and the Poles and because of the eternal gratitude expressed by the Dutch population?.
@klaasm67 Erm. we lost this battle: those men lost their lives due to poor planning and intelligence. Why do we Brits celebrate defeats? Why not celebrate the successful crossing of the Rhine, or our part in the battle of the bulge, or Alamein, or even Trafalgar???.
