What are some good activities to do in a large lecture (50+ students) to keep engagement that aren't polls, breakout rooms, and don't require any prep for the students? Help me blended learning experts, you're my only hope!

I realised no one has said it to me like that in some time! (About student retention, non-submissions, data, systems - yes, but not about my experience as a teacher, let alone if I have joy in teaching!). Hearing these words today has made me feel supported & liberated. [2/2]

I had an induction meeting about teaching a new course next Sem. At the end, the course coordinator said "the important thing is you remember to enjoy teaching it!" I got struck by these words.[1/2]

This is when taking a developmental approach to training matters. Take the time to think of where the trainee currently stands and what their previous experiences have been. ✨Zones of proximal development and scaffolding are key✨

I've been thinking about cultural framings.. how "tweaks" like "you can use the bathroom on your terms", "you can leave the camera off", "you can complete this course without being graded" don't make sense if they're the only change.
“Allow” seems a strange term in this case; but I was also the teacher who just could not ever (in 30 years) wrap my head around “allowing” students to leave the classroom to use the rest room.

Excavating and discussing / negotiating values makes these practical decisions easier and more meaningful. It also helps you to interrogate the decisions that are being made by default (e.g. policies that are "just the way we do things here").

The entangled pedagogy diagrams are now an #OER: https://t.co/SYq5zrwu7y This should make them easier to find & cite, while keeping it dynamic (in case of new versions). I also documented the #OpenScholarship process a bit. I hope we’ll keep this conversation going here too!

Four diagrams of the entangled relationship of technology and pedagogy by Tim Fawns, Edinburgh Medical School. This framework has now been published as an open access journal article: Fawns, T....
Draft #3 of an entangled relationship of #technology & #pedagogy. @steph_moore asked if #2 represented what is / what should be. I've gone with *what is* I'd *like* purpose, values & context to drive methods & tech, but they inevitably all shape each other? Thoughts please 😀
