And honestly, at this point, theaters don't have much left to lose and we should be doing/trying everything we can to get people back in theaters if it's gonna remain an integral part of our business.

BUT! If it does work, you've both increased revenue and given happy customers an option they've wanted and didn't know they could have. They're gonna see the trailers on their phone at home anyway!.

I don't run a theater but I can imagine this is an easy thing for someone like AMC to test. Add a screening or two for the biggest films with no ads/trailers for a premium and see what happens. If it doesn't work, you lose nothing but a couple of ad-free screenings.

Now you don't have to set aside an entire part-time work shift just to go see a movie. (travel time matters/factors into the equation for people too.).

I've said it to anyone who will listen-- I think people will pay extra to see a film with no ads/trailers that starts exactly when it says it does. They're already doing it for ad-free streaming at home. Now your 3 hr Nolan film experience. is 3 hrs. Not nearly four.

I can't imagine any creative team or distributor wants an audience sitting there annoyed before the movie starts but I've seen it happen twice in the two most recent big releases.

The last two films I saw in theaters (Superman/Fantastic 4) the room audibly groaned and complained at the amount of trailers and commercials. My F4 screening was listed at 1245p and didn't start until 1:20.

Of course 20+% of folks are now skipping trailers and studios created the problem. You inundate audiences with trailers online, even releasing trailer release date announcements, then expect ppl to sit through 20-40 extra mins of the same trailers before a 2-2+ hr film.🧵.
