Evie & The Robot Episode 3!!! This time we talked about the latter half of Series 1 and the heavy hitters really make the series so special. We also go on a few tangents, was a lot of fun
NEW: Support for the monarchy has fallen under 50% for the first time in the UK, a new poll has found
The Savanta research, described as 'huge' by Republic, shows the monarchy is losing support fast
"Doctor Who" star Ncuti Gatwa says “there’s so much white mediocrity that gets celebrated, and Black people have to be absolutely flawless to get half of [that] anyway."
“We’re trained to be like, ‘If I’m not exceptional, I won’t be loved.’ I think I’m just learning now like,
Making Cassandra the first explicit transgender Doctor Who character might just be one of the most horribly aged things in the history of the show. After rewatching End of The World alone, it has aged disastrously in that one aspect. Fine character, shouldn't have been trans.
God, the way he says "They're off in Time and Space, like me." with that twinkle in his voice and that grin, he's just always the Doctor, I'm sorry but he'll always be the Doctor
You deserved better. You deserve to be here and you deserve to not have our own government try to desecrate your memory. You deserved so much better, Brianna 🩵🩷🤍🩷🩵
Fuck everyone who drove Georgia Tennant off of here. Your performative activism has cost us not only a lovely presence on this hellsite but also one of our most prominent LGBTQ+ allies. All because she wasn't as vocal on a topic she was still learning about.
Well fucking done.
I know NPH as the Toymaker and Jinkx Monsoon as Maestro are objectively way bigger casting stunts but getting Timothy Dalton, a previous Bond actor and fittingly the only Welsh Bond, as Rassilon is still such an awesomely British casting and really made EOT feel like a big deal
People who think that character flaws = poorly written character really need to sit tf down. And the people who act like 10 is a bad character because of his very intentional and upfront character flaws are also very cringe and having such a naive view of characters is very silly
Yes the Tenth Doctor can be a cocky bastard and vain but I don’t think that makes him a bad character, I think it makes him interesting! Our hero doesn’t have to be perfect. That ego blows up in his face at the end anyway, it’s the whole point!
The episode constantly uses her as a source of mockery and something to laugh at. Her obsession with surgeries is seen as a joke and something to take the piss out of. And you know, trans people kinda REALLY fucking need surgeries to feel more comfortable in our bodies.

@TrilbeeReviews
have you heard that conservatives are now using Christopher Eccleston’s recent clip at convention to prove their point? Also this from Bowlestrek.
Really disappointed in how unprofessional Benjamin Cook has been acting over something as innocuous as a simple mistake. Christina was just celebrating a legit achievement and got something wrong. Going "well actually" and talking down to her is so not needed
@ShadowK_01
I don't want America shoved down my throat tbh. You can be American as long as you don't make it your whole personality and don't harm others with it
@DumbTransphobes
If we're being honest, if they really wanted to portray the transformers as proper robots they'd all be Asexual, aromantic, non-binary emotionless beings. But since the 80s they've fallen in love, have LGBTQ+ romances and even full on body dysphoria. I think one being NB is fine
8 years since the best Doctor Who episode ever made was released. Heaven Sent is a masterclass in writing, direction and acting. It's Steven Moffat at his best, Rachel Talalay's directing is fantastic as always and Peter Capaldi was pitch fucking perfect. Pure masterpiece.
that BASTARD, how dare he wish the show have as big a budget as possible and have the ability to survive for many more years. Doctor Who should have a budget of £7, look like shit and risk being cancelled at every turn, thats the REAL Doctor Who
Not all trans people ofc, not gonna speak for all of us, but even I'm considering getting FFS. And a lot of trans women I know wanna get bottom surgery. Surgery is a gender affirming care for us and we kinda need it to live how we want to live.
But thankfully in 2023 we saw the some good trans progress for the show and a good sign going forward. We had a trans central story and we had just casual rep showing that we're normal people.
That's what we needed after all this time and especially in this climate. 🩵🤍🩷
So yeah, thanks there. Also there's how Rose, the audience surrogate, straight up says she would rather die than be like Cassandra. So you know, that's fantastic to say to the first trans character.
What RTD is saying is that some writers push for representation without putting the work or the passion into it, they just want brownie points for having representation in their scripts. It's like when he criticised Loki for it's poor attempt at Bi representation.
Still not over how The Shepherd's Boy has appeared in the last two anniversary specials. And it being one of the few Moffat era tracks to make a come back for the 60th too. That's why it's one helluva song.
@reelmomentsAI
@bornposting
Just fucking stop with the AI and quit it with spamming under people's tweets saying the same thing. No-one wants to see that shit
@fanvax_
And even then they switch up the roster by the end. We never got an actual status quo for the team, with them as an ongoing team throughout the series. Each film had a major shift by the end. It isn't a huge issue but it does make me want more
And there's how Rose also straight up says Cassandra isn't human and that Rose, the cis character, is more human than she is. Which again, BRILLIANT for the first trans character.
Let me also add on to this, a lot of DW TwT is also at fault here. A lot of you went along with it, so many of you used it to say RTD was failing as a showrunner and that it was like Eccleston and S1 all over again. The British Press sucks... but you aren't blameless either
Oh, and there's how she's the show's second villain. Not to say that trans people can't play villains, that'd be silly, but making the first trans character into a villain that murders quite a lot of people all to pay for her surgeries
Look not to harp on the previous era more but after 5 years of an era that felt like it was walking on egg shells with its representation it is just so euphoric to see our new leading man talking about the queer experience, his experience as a person of colour and how proud he is
She's a fine character and as a villain, I can't say she's awful. But that one detail, that one throwaway line turns her from "ehh, this is a lot of shade being thrown towards surgeries but sure" to "HOLY FUCK RUSSELL WHAT WERE YOU FUCKING THINKING??!?!?!"
And also makes her a eugenicist who hates aliens and humans that "dance" with them and sees herself as "pure." Which again, not great for the shows first trans character.
And this isn't even to say she's a bad character.
Mary Malone's character being Ruby's friend who just hangs out with her and goes on the town to chat about normal shit and shows how normal we are, it made me so happy. It made me feel so normalised and warm after what the TERFs have been saying about Brianna all week ❤❤ ➕ 🏳️⚧️
@CocoaFox023
@FandomMenaceLs_
oh NO, the shapechanger with no definable features and an androgynous body doesn't identify as male and is more of a genderless being, AAAAAH RUN, X-MEN ARE RUINED
I get wanting to do some casual trans rep, especially in S1 which was pushing the boundaries for queer storytelling in the mainstream. But of all characters, why did you pick this one? All these issues wouldn't be issues if that line wasn't there, but since it is-
It basically means the episode ends with the Doctor saying "everything has its time and everything dies" as the first trans character just crumples infront of him. Which. Isn't. Fantastic. And I haven't even rewatched New Earth yet, god knows what else they do there.
I don't know how many more of these I can read about. Something has to be done about this, we have to fight so that the next generation of trans kids aren't murdered before they ever get to be themselves. He was just 18, he was just about to turn 19 and finally be himself. Fuck.
also bad video. Same old "bad VFX and not that scary" criticisms. But the last third is just dedicated to how much he hates the Timeless Child and the Flux and how it should have been decanonised and RTD is cringe for trying to make it work. Just quite childish tbh
Here's something a lot of Doctor Who fans need to hear: your insistence that Doctor Who must remain this niche little British show and shunning away any new potential viewers will do more to kill the show than anything you think RTD or Disney will do.
Longwinded thread aside, making her trans was one of the most poorly aged decisions in the history of Doctor Who, not even exaggerating. If she wasn't trans, she'd be a fine one off villain, but since she has that title of "first trans character"
Oh, and there's how she's the show's second villain. Not to say that trans people can't play villains, that'd be silly, but making the first trans character into a villain that murders quite a lot of people all to pay for her surgeries
And don't get me started on the show's relationship with transness in other instances. Like with "Susan" and the other poorly aged trans bit with "Good old JK" and THAT Torchwood scene.
it makes these optics issues all the more apparent. Especially since, for a long time, she was the ONLY explicit trans character in the main show. So THIS was the best we had for almost 20 years.
I still like The Star Beast. Twitter seems to act like its aged horribly or gotten worse with every rewatch, nah I still have fun with it and idc, the trans rep is still fantastic and means everything to me. You lot are just dumb.
@Cynical_CJ
I thought it was gonna go for "Good, it'll subvert expectations by not following Tolkien's lore and doing it's own thing." I think I would have preferred that over "older writer bad because they probably had older values"
I have my issues with her era but I will always firmly stand by that she was never an issue and did the absolute best she could and imo, shined the most when she was doing little moments like this. Its a shame that I can't enjoy her episodes but she absolutely IS the Doctor
When the 60th anniversary opens with this and it says starring Paul McGann, Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant, Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi and written by Russell T Davies
@JayExci
It was easily one of the stupidest things to undo. Him losing his eye was part of his journey to accept the title of king and how he finally came into the role. But less than a year later, he just has it back and now you can hardly tell he lost it since it's back to being blue
I've been thinking about doing this for a while now but I feel like now is the right time. I'm trans. I questioned it for ages but I feel confident in saying it. And yeah it's been obvious as of late lmao but I feel like I should come out. I hope you all understand❤️💙
@TharriesYT
its a retcon that I'm surprised the show took this long to try out tbh. It can be applied to origin stories and elements that just don't make sense or fit with other pieces of established lore. And its a clever way to use the Toymaker and show he's a very VERY petty kind of God.
@JayExci
I do. Doctor Strange is one of my favourite MCU films. And even though it isn't great, when compared to the sea of shit that is most of the MCU I'd say it's actually kinda underrated. Same with Thor, nothing great but it's not as bad as most of the MCU
returns after being offline for a couple months

He murders Megs after they reached a peace and a truce was proposed and after he saved Prime no less. And then Prime decides to commit yet another war crime and shoot an unarmed opponent who was surrendering and also begging for mercy.
so cool and badass
@ComicsMeta
“The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant.”
Finished a rewatch of Series 1. Yup, it's fantastic. Absolutely fantastic. I hadn't rewatched it in a long long time but I'm showing the show to someone (btw they love it so far) and I never really realised just how brilliant it is. Just a really solid series of TV.
Gravity is now called Mavity, 10 canonically fucked Queen Elizabeth the 1st and the Agatha Christie solved a murder mystery with a giant wasp.
But Isaac Newton being not white is the breaking point I guess
