An important learning point for firefighters. #CPR.
The most important change in my practice in cardiac arrest in recent years: checking defibrillator pad position.

Using checklists has strangely been seen as a sign of weakness in the fire brigade. But would you really prefer relying on memory in a high-pressure moment?. Or ensuring every critical step is covered—every single time?. Checklists aren't cheating. They're professional.
Many see pre-procedural checklists solely as a tool for checking equipment . In EMRS we monitored the heart rate of clinicians during our pre-anaesthetic checklist. 100% of clinicians experienced a fall in heart rate. Here's why.

An important consideration. #CPR.
@annathebanana @heli_med_james Absolutely - standard would be to lift the breast and place under/laterally. There’s a lot of inequity in CPR teaching (all on male models) and it shows in the stats

How is your firefighters' defib pad placement? #CPR.
Defib pad placement is important. Positioning them correctly can double someone’s chance of survival. Side A is correct. The key difference is that the pad on the left hand side of the chest has been placed on the side of the rib cage, closer to the armpit.

Good to see. Having to operate rescue equipment in flooding environments is a likely scenario. How many services incorporate using battery powered rescue equipment with water rescue training?.
LUKAS has taken its rescue equipment to the next level, expanding its capabilities for use in, on, or under water—whether it's fresh or salt water. With the e3 series boasting a certified IP58 protection class and a matching IP68-rated rescue battery 🔋💧

Emerging risk following flooding events - the ignition of EV batteries. Now needs to become part of strategic considerations for flooding.

EVs caused several house fires post-hurricane Helene floods.
Electric Vehicles that have been flooded in saltwater can catch fire. If you evacuated and left an electric vehicle or golf cart in your garage or under a building and you are not able to get to it or move it, we want you to let us know. /1

Demonstrates how quick a flood can expand to create a very dangerous situation for the public. Cracking effort from all emergency workers .

Great interagency collaboration!. If we respond to incidents together, we should train together—essential for a smooth and coordinated emergency response. Terminology shared, new ways of working learned and new bonds between teams created. #JESIP.
Today Blue Watch @shropsfire kicked off the first boat 🚤 familiarisation sessions with our colleagues from @WMASHART Well done to all involved in getting these sessions off the ground, an excellent example of sharing knowledge and skills amongst teams. #jesip

Good safe system of work with the technicians tethered and using the eddy (calm area of water) created by the tree/bend to work from. Good work! #WaterRescue.
A very lucky driver escaped flood water with the help of fire crews after their car got stuck on a ford near Condover early this morning. Photos from the Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service show the rescue operation taking place after the firefighters were called at about 7.30am.

In swift water rescue, a human chain formation can help reduce drag, but in chest-deep water moving at 6-10 mph, you're fighting against a force of 1 tonne per cubic meter. Even with teamwork, you're likely to be swept away. Best to avoid these situations entirely!.
This is a training video from China on how to save yourself and others if you get caught in flowing water. It’s highly useful and educational, and it can help save lives.

I understand why people might see this as fun, but it's important to consider the dangers:.- Hidden open manholes.- Sharp debris.- Waterborne diseases.- Exposure to electrical lines.- Contaminated water with harmful chemicals.- Risk of drowning in deeper areas. #Flooding.
People enjoy swimming after flash flooding in some areas of Nagpur. Heavy to extremely heavy rains lashed Nagpur on Saturday morning. Video: SW @ngpnmc

A common learning point with technicians is taking into account that slower moving water/eddy, prior to hitting the flow, when wading/swimming out for a tethered swim. Good rescue!.
Timing is everything when it comes to ‘tethered rescues’, but ultimately a rescue is a rescue. Here is another video from Day 2 of the Water Rescue Technician course currently being delivered in #BiH showing members of the military Search and Rescue team practicing their newly

Finally getting the chance to read @PeteApps brilliantly written book ‘Show Me the Bodies’. Amongst the many examples of negligence and ‘profit before safety’ demonstrated, this stood out:. #JusticeForGrenfell #Grenfell

Outstanding effort!.
Watch the incredible moment our @HMCoastguard #Coastguard #Rescue helicopter from #Newquay saves the life of someone clinging to a cliff face. A timely reminder of the dangers on our coastline, beautiful one moment, dangerous the next. #StaySafe.

Looks like a great training venue! . Good practice breaking through eddy lines - needs strong aggressive strokes to punch through it (without being swept away) and a ferry angle (the way your head is pointing) either slightly upstream or at 90 degrees. Good work.

Great bit of research going on here. Looking beyond at the long-term post-incident care of those we rescue. Good work.
My article is now live on @ESTmagUK which introduces the ‘Psychology of Rescue’ research study. Thanks to Area Manager David Escudier (@margatescud) who is the @kentfirerescue lead, as well as researcher Dr Lynsey Mahmood (@lynseymahmood) . #PTSD #Kent.
