This 👇🏽 💯 We didn’t see behavioural sex differences in age-related episodic memory decline in the Montreal Adult Lifespan Study but @SivaniyaSubram & I saw latent sex differences in the neural correlates of age effects on memory decline. https://t.co/5VYZIItPr7

Abstract. Aging is associated with episodic memory decline and alterations in memory-related brain function. However, it remains unclear if age-related memory decline is associated with similar...

Just because you don't see a sex difference in your behaviour does not mean you will not see sex differences in mechanism. NB there are different types of sex differences and mechanistic sex differences will mean different treatments are likely needed to modify the behaviour.

New Preprint 🚨 We studied the effects of menopausal hormone therapy (MHT) on the female brain using neuroimaging data and prescription registry data from the UK Biobank. This project has been such a headache! Here is what we found 🧵 https://t.co/93pvKYzyhJ

🧩This study highlights the importance of considering sex and genetic factors when studying brain aging. A sex-specific lens provides crucial insights into how cardiometabolic risks impact brain health.

🕵🏻‍♀️In our previous UK Biobank work we found a similar effect [ https://t.co/3NXqaGiZ3l]. Could females be especially vulnerable to frailty or weight loss as a result of brain aging, or could certain types of body fat play a part in female brain health? @uk_biobank

👵🏻For females, higher BMI was associated with older brain age in APOE4 noncarriers, but surprisingly, it was linked to a younger brain age in APOE4 carriers, especially later in life.

🔍Key Findings: Higher blood pressure was linked to older brain age in females only, while higher BMI was linked to older brain age in males across all timepoints and APOE groups.

🧠Using data from 2 UK birth cohorts, we explored sex differences in the relationships between cardiometabolic risk factors and brain age over time. We also looked at how these factors interact with the APOE ε4 gene, a known risk factor for Alzheimer’s disease.@EdinUniLBC @MRCLHA
