My podcast One Season Wonders is here!
I'm so grateful to
@kbiegel
and
@MikeRoyce
who gave me time for an interview last year for ep 1. They're genuinely some of the nicest people ever.
I'd love if ppl gave it a listen!
Episode 1 is HERE!
We look at the comedy show ENLISTED, the production and broadcast history, and we speak with Executive Producers Kevin Biegel and Mike Royce about their experiences on the show!

The thing about THE MATRIX is you'll see a shot you've NEVER seen before in cinematic history, and think surely this is the BEST shot of the film, only to have a newer, more incredible shot thrown at you every 2 seconds 'til the credits roll.
Can't wait for the studios to misinterpret the success of BARBIE to be that people want movies based on Kids Toys and not that People want interesting films from Filmmakers with a VOICE.
Reminder that in shooting this gay sex scene, the straight director and BOTH straight actors got the positions wrong and made for impossible angles that don't biologically work and so they had to reshoot under the guidance of Fuller, a gay man.
Hiring Homos saves money.
On set for LORD OF THE RINGS during a night shoot, they'd set up some big lights so you can see all the characters.
Sean Astin asks Andrew Lesnie, the Cinematographer, "Where does the light come from?"
Lesnie: "The same place as the music"
@WhitneyCummings
"Objectifying" and "Women" are doing a lot of standing in for "Rape" and "Child" here...
What 10c vending machine did you get this Joke from?
"why aren't there more Romantic movies in cinemas"
Go see THE FALL GUY.
"we need more fun movies, everything is so serious"
Go see THE FALL GUY.
"Emily Blunt needs another action film"
GO SEE THE FALL GUY.
"Why did The Nice Guys bomb?"
GO SEE THE FALL GUY
@RasberryRazz
The gall to suggest that watching a fictionalised scene of sexual assault with actors and a script is the exact same as being sexually assaulted for real, jawdroppingly insulting to people who have gone through that awful trauma for real.
Has someone written an extensive thinkpiece about how a bunch of children on the internet are working to implicate Olivia Wilde in fabricated crimes because they have a psychopathic parasocial relationship with Harry Styles they made up in their heads... Or...?
@mattroembke
It crossed 100 million 9 days ago, so you tweeted this three days AFTER all the articles about it crossing 100 million went out, which makes it even more egregious.
Not to put on a rainbow-tinfoil hat, but I don't think it's a coincidence that JUST as queer sexuality is breaking through into cinematic spaces it was excluded from, ppl suddenly turn around and declare the state of media as some depraved wall-to-wall sex fest.
Less than 2% of English language movies released in North America each year have sex scenes, and the ones that do exist tend to be very short, and somehow the perception that there’s an epidemic of pornography on screens has migrated from Fox News Channel and TikTok to actors
@JusticeVanCho
The very nature of cutting to a close up is inherently unnatural, it's insane to me that a pursuit of "realism" has, in fact, gone so beyond the point and become less-than-real now.
Brandon Sanderson calling out Audible's shitty business practices towards indie authors is the exact kind of energy I want to see from the biggest authors on the planet.
Using their platform for good change.
Levi's:
- 1982, CEO Bob Hass stood alongside employees outside Levi’s HQ handing out leaflets about what would soon be called HIV/AIDS
- In 1992 the first major corporation to provide domestic partner benefits to same-sex couples.
-Proceeds go to OutRight Action International.
Sometimes a scene doesn't have to "Drive the plot forward" sometimes a scene can just be in a film because it's fucking beautiful.
No one on earth can say Singin' in the Rain is a film with bad pacing with a straight face. You're making an experience, not a plot machine.
Having seen HALLOWEEN ENDS now, cannot fathom why people are having a borderline psychotic reaction to it?
Like it doesn't even do Last-Jedi stuff, it's basically... just a movie?
This world is in desperate need of curing its crippling Co-dependency with nostalgia.
I feel part of what makes Josh Segarra extra hot in The Other Two is he's not sporting like the ultra-dehydrated, not-eaten-in-two-weeks kind of body they make so many actors do, he's jacked, sure, but he actually looks like a real person.
And they let him have body hair!
Holy shit. I've never won an award for Directing before, so I'm riding a great little high tonight.
It's the one thing I feel like I was put on earth to do.
Candice Owens and Matt Walsh are now claiming the murder of Matthew Shepard is a conspiracy that wasn't real and I have never felt my blood boil so hard and fast.
Beyond vile, it's making me physically ill thinking of those two turgid, walking skid marks masquerading as humans.
AMADEUS is a film of impossible, staggering craft.
Every shot, set, costume, cut (top 3 best editing of all time), every performance and turn of a head is the perfect one.
Re-watching gives one the despair of knowing that you will NEVER have the skill to make art this perfect.
A big reason old fashioned matte paintings are effective is because they represent an IDEA. The best ones end up standing for the movie itself, in our memories. They require a decision to be made early & stuck with throughout production. Deliberation & sureness are mandatory.
@JusticeVanCho
I think disjointed in that is suddenly introduces new places and characters that aren't pre-set-up, explained, or brought back for a resolution, but that's dream logic.
They were putting their money where their mouths were before corporations thought it was cool and while the Gay community were treated like lepers by the rest of the world. So save your twitter dunks for the fucking banks, please.
@makigdlp
Straights cannot comprehend the logistics of Gay Missionary.
The quote was along the lines of "He'd need to have a right angled dick to have made that work"
Muting this post cause people are getting stupid in the replies.
Go watch SHADOW AND BONE on netflix, they need good numbers for a renewal and it's a wonderful sbow!
@oliver_warden
I assume they dropped the ceiling in, or even Seamlessly CG'd it? It's definitely one shot, there's no way that many dancers would match so seamlessly.
We never see the top of the door they enter, so I assume that's where missing set is.
Either way, astonishing stagecraft.
Remember when Actors didn't need to starve and dehydrate themselves for weeks, and show every single muscle bulging and rippling under their skin, and it was still sexy AS FUCK?
Can we go back to that?
@drewgmackie
Begging people to understand that the "queer is a slur" talking point is NEVER made in earnest, they don't believe it.
You can literally chart the usage on internet of that phrase and it only came about in response to increasing trans rights.
It's a Transphobic dogwhistle.
I turned 33 today and that nagging feeling of time running out has every fibre of my being screaming that all I want to do with every day of the rest of my life is direct films.
I wish I knew how to make that happen.
@RasberryRazz
People: "I didn't like Saltburn, story felt clumsy, Rosamund Pike is Excellent, though"
Twitter: "WHY IS EMERALD FENNEL THE MOST REVILED FILMMAKER OF HER TIME!!!?"
@jfkenney
If the audience was exclusively young girls I would agree with you, but the straightest, bordering on right wing dude at my work says he's interested in seeing it, it's the massive cross-demographic appeal that is making it bigger than Mission Impossible.
Tina Fey isn't giving her own opinions on Saltburn in that clip, she's repeating Bowen's back to him which he shared on an earlier podcast what the fuck is up with people inventing things that aren't real and didn't happen?
@girldrawsghosts
The right wing are deliberately using "Groomer" in bad faith because it's good (evil) marketing.
They hypocrisy is by design. Why do we act like they're being earnest with their accusations?
@rachelzegler
Imagine saying a stunt-coordinator "spoils the spontaneity" of throwing yourself from a height and punching your co-workers, movies are planned and scripted and the actor has to make it seem spontaneous, that's part of their job, lord these men are so pressed aren't they?
By THE LAST CRUSADE, Spielberg's staging has become absolute god-tier, it's literally impossible to keep track of and parse how any one scene is put together, he uses multiple moving oners and cuts into and through them so intricately.
It's TOTAL command of craft.
@TabitaSurge
I'm sorry this part is absolutely gob smacking. They first care about the mental health of the children who aren't queer and have no direct relation to the child going through it?
Everyone, the solution is real fucking easy:
DO NOT WATCH AI THINGS
DO NOT SHARE AI THINGS
DO NOT DO THE FUCKING AI PHOTO TRENDS
DO NO LISTEN TO AI AUDIOBOOKS
It has to make money, and the only way it makes money is if you feed the fucking plants.
Don't feed the Plants!
More people should watch THEY SHOOT HORSES DON'T THEY.
Scathing, searing, bleak masterpiece, unfortunately very relevant to the world today, and the Writer's Strike and some phenomenal performances.
Maybe Sydney Pollack's best?
@michaeljames_TV
The etymology of the expression comes from Beheadings/Executions which involved Axes or Guillotines chopping off people's heads.
Since historical Castrations were done with knives, all idioms about that were "cut" based, but the preferred term was "Geld" anyway (Norse Origin).
The number of ppl in my film school who really just didn't like watching movies was insane.
Worse, when I got out in the world and found out a bunch of indie filmmakers also hate watching movies.
They have one filmmaker or one genre or style and that's the Only thing they watch
There are SO MANY film majors who think movies are tight but also just don't watch movies. My best friend in the program BOMBED film history. I looked at his test answers once and for "Who was Thomas Edison?" he just wrote "A good man" which still isn't even correct.
@NoahHarald
If the smoothing is still om, chances are all the auto "noise reduction" and "gamma correction" shit is on too, that really messes with the image.
Movies directed BY women, STARRING women released in the last two years!
Let's keep this Barbie energy up, rent or buy or stream these ones if you're looking for more incredible work!
Levi's:

I just want to direct. I just want to wake up, and my job that day and every day is Directing, and I DESPISE how it's something I can only do like once every 18 months for 3 days and that it's less than a hobby because so much time goes to my dayjob and surviving 😥
Honestly the breadth of Queer films, and the explosion of *GENRE* storytelling in that space in 2023 is giving me life and hope.
I'm starting to believe the career and the art I want to make has a place in this world.
It seems A LOT of people didn't bother to see Dungeons and Dragons in cinemas, despite the near universal acceptance that those directors did wonders with Game Night... And are now discovering it on streaming... What gives?
@tnyfrontrow
EEAAO is about the multiverse in the same way that Portrait of a Lady on Fire is about paintbrushes.
Why make up stuff to try prove that your dislike is rooted in objective measurement and not just taste?
"I don't like it" and "it's not good" aren't the same.
@aidsonblades
Ah yes, "ugly" an objective measurement of beauty. Something totally in the spirit of Queerness.
The only ugly thing here is your attitude and misguided belief that your snark is a good substitute for wit.
@ArielaBarer
Some 2020 Queer + PoC and Black films to seek out...
- Disclosure
- The Half Of It
- No Ordinary Man
- Breaking Fast
- Straight Up
- The Surrogate (a powerhouse leading performance)
- Funny Boy
- Cicada (main supporting character)
- I'll add 40 Year Old Version because Peter Kim
THE OTHER TWO is truly punching at 30 Rock levels of comedy. And maybe one of the best satires of Hollywood and "The Industry".
The Pleasantville episode alone was genius and it's so fucking queer to the bones, it's the kind of show I dream of making.
@lilmoggie
@msainat1
They're not interest free, some of them acrue "Indexing" which is just interest by any other name.
The people who made uni cost are the people who also got into Uni in Australia when it was free.
@maxfperry
@nytimes
The impossibility of Infinite growth in a finite world is the most basic ass math and it's insane how money people keep pretending like they can just outlast reality.
@jduffyrice
LANDSCAPERS. A crime drama unlike anything you've seen. An Olivia Colemam career BEST performance.
There's a shot in episode three that's as groundbreaking as the Hot Priest looking to the camera in Fleabag.
If Hugh Jackman really is gay, it's just gonna be shitty and sad that he had to go through that for so fucking long repressing self for so many decades because of professional and public scrutiny.
Viral tweets are weird, If anyone sees this, I'm also a filmmaker and I made a feature film with a tracking shot in it!

As I've heard it the whole thing is like, if the movie is great, every single Suit in the boardroom still HAS to have a note, otherwise they can't justify their jobs, so they'll make up some nonsense note that sounds to them and other suits like it's a genuine thing?
@InsideBenDavis
Hear me out: you could ignore other people and watch the movie on it's own terms and not assess it based on tweets from strangers?
...But then where would you get all your contrarian twitter clout?
