Proud to have launched the

Private Rented Sector strategy. You can read my blog and the strategy at the link below.
With 1 in 3 households renting privately and 8,500 households in temporary accommodation, it’s vital we get this right
📣 We've launched our draft Private Sector Housing Strategy 2024 - our plan to ensure that those who rent from a private landlord get the safe, warm and secure homes they deserve 🏡

It’s official!!!!
I signed my declaration of office today as a
#London
Assembly member.
In the end it took 30 minutes by bus to get to City Hall, but the journey has been two years since applying to be considered and 15 years since first becoming a
#Hackney
councillor.
Thank you, I made it! Really proud to have won the nomination from members in
#Hackney
#Islington
&
#WalthamForest
to be our candidate for North East!! Exhausted and excited in equal measure. Lots to do between now and May in terms of campaigning for the Assembly &
@SadiqKhan
“It doesn’t make sense that Hackney is set to receive 16p per head from levelling-up funding, whereas somewhere wealthier like Bromsgrove will get £148 per head”.
Our Economy Spokesperson,
@LabourMarina
’s response to the publication of the Levelling Up White Paper ⬇️
Utterly bonkers take on London by the Tories & their candidate. Whoever made the video should lie down in a dark room before publishing such fearmongering hate & misinformation towards our great city.
@SadiqKhan
is & will be a Mayor for all who fixes problems, not inflame tension
I love our city. London is such an amazing place.
It makes me angry that the governing party - the Tories - are talking down our capital. It’s unpatriotic.
How can they aspire to lead a city they don’t even seem to like?
One year ago I was proud to be selected as the
@UKLabour
candidate for North East. We have only 75 days to go until Election Day. Vote for me, vote
@SadiqKhan
and vote Labour for the list to keep london labour and safe from the Tory government
#standingupforlondon
A massive thank you from me to
@SouthHackneyLab
members for resoundingly endorsing me to be the candidate for next year’s London Assembly elections. I can’t wait to hit the doorsteps with activists and members in Hackney, Islington and Waltham Forest, for myself and
@SadiqKhan
!
Arrived home on the
#Windrush
line - great to see this announced at stations. I bumped into a teenager looking at the poster, who got brave and did a selfie
#representationmatters
The Windrush line
📍 Highbury & Islington to Clapham Junction/New Cross/Crystal Palace/West Croydon
Map colour: Red
The Windrush generation continues to shape our city today. This line honours them and runs through areas with strong ties to Caribbean communities.
Turns out the lovely man who sells me coffee on my way to work every day voted for me in the ballot, who knew! Loyal customer here and the best coffee in Haggerston
Proudest moment of my campaign to be our next Assembly Member for North East: receiving the support of Baroness Doreen Lawrence OBE, a woman who changed the justice system for all Londoners through her campaigning. Your e-ballot should have arrived-please lend me your support!y
Last week, after a 15 year battle, my father died of Alzheimer’s disease. Huge thanks to everyone who has sent us comforting words and thoughts this week. We’re raising funds for
@alzheimerssoc
in his memory-my family would not have survived without them
The calm before the (actual) storm! Great rainy-day turnout to get Laura Pascal elected on 18 January as your next
@UKLabour
councillor for Cazenove. Residents deserve a hardworking, committed and active local councillor, representing local interests/ needs at Hackney Town Hall
Pleased to let
@UKLabour
members in Hackney, Islington and Waltham Forest that after qualifying in October, I will be on the member ballot to be our next London Assembly member

Mayors Question Time I asked about (lack of) protection for private renters, esp. important as the moratorium on evictions ends soon. We need rent controls, longer tenancies & more powers for councils so landlords can’t act with impunity & make people homeless
Pleased to announce I’ve submitted my application the for North East GLA seat which includes Hackney, Waltham Forest and Islington - email me at hello
@semmoema
.london on how to get involved!
Finally getting to meet the other amazing new women candidates at today’s briefing, all so passionate and focused on winning for Labour this May, returning
@SadiqKhan
as our Mayor and representing our communities at City Hall
Twitter, I’m mad today. Schools who should know better (we know who you are) calling
#afrohair
#unprofessional
. Here’s to all the black kids, spending HOURS putting in the sleeping braids before doing homework (committee papers for me). See how we go about our business like this!
What’s a little rain to a
@UKLabour
campaigner! Great to welcome
@SadiqKhan
to our canvass session to make
@carowoodley
the next Mayor of Hackney, on 9 November.
I was delighted to join
@MayorofLondon
@JohnCryerMP
@GracieMaeW
and
@Labourstone
to visit to the Francis Road Low Traffic Neighbourhood
#ltn
in Leyton this morning, which has been very successful in driving down traffic and congestion in the area. (1/3)
The polls open at 7am on 6 May - this is your chance to vote to return
@SadiqKhan
as our Mayor, and me as our next
#London
Assembly member, fighting for North East London.
It’s been a long campaign and a difficult year - don’t risk waking up on 7 May with a Tory Mayor
#teamkhan
After a hard fought election, I’m really proud to have been re-elected to serve Hackney Downs residents for another four years, along with my colleague
@dezairedale
. Sadly, our dream team lost
@annajoyrickard
, who I’ve been proud to call a friend and ward colleague. 🌹 😴
This is what leadership looks like in London, from
@SadiqKhan
. This really important policy to help families tackle the Tories’
#CostOfLivingCrisis
will save families up to £1000 over two years.
JUST ANNOUNCED: City Hall's groundbreaking free school meals programme is to be extended for another year.
No child should go hungry in our city.
The Government have refused to act, so I’ve stepped up.
Pleased to see
@MayorofLondon
has won the judicial review on all points. Around £1million of council tax payers’ money spent on opposing lawful clean air measures to protect ALL Londoners’ health.
Unlike the government, the Mayor
@SadiqKhan
is supporting Londoners through the cost of living and is funding free school meals to primary school children.
City Hall Tories just voted AGAINST this measure. New name, same old tories
The
#ULEZExpansion
is a great step towards cleaning the toxic air in our capital, pleased to see so much support. Check if your your vehicle is compliant at the link👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾
Expanding ULEZ means children in outer London Boroughs will breathe cleaner air, like their classmates in inner London.
The Mayor of London’s generous scrappage scheme provides real help for those that still need to switch vehicles.
#FairerGreener
Polling stations closed, finished the day with these amazing people! To everyone across
#Hackney
#Islington
and
#WalthamForest
, thank you for speaking to us about your aspirations for our great city and how we can rebuild after
#covid
#TeamKhan
Free school meals for all primary school kids shows what difference having a Labour mayor makes.
@MayorofLondon
’s decision will be welcome help to London families, supporting 270,000 children during
#CostOfLiving
and save them £440 a year.
NEW: City Hall will be funding free school meals for every primary school pupil in London.
No child should go hungry in our city.
The Government have refused to act, so I’m stepping up.
Final councillor surgery of 2023 today. The cost of living has had real life consequences for so many people, & the community has suffered a tragic loss of a loving mother and neighbour to gun violence. Looking forward to a much less difficult 2024 for residents and constituents
I don’t cycle much because I’m unsure of myself on London’s streets-I’m literally the case study
But this👇🏿 is me, last summer, cycling from my home in
#Hackney
to
#Walthamstow
, visiting madré
Thanks
@wfcouncil
4 creating safe cycle paths 4 people like me
#MiniHolland
After a mammoth campaign, huge congratulations to
@SadiqKhan
on being re-elected
@MayorofLondon
.
I’m looking forward to working on behalf of Hackney, Islington and Waltham Forest residents at the assembly to make life better for us all.
Thank you London. It’s the absolute honour of my life to serve the city I love for another three years.
I’ll leave no stone unturned to get our city back on its feet.
A brighter future is possible, and we’ll deliver it together.
Almost a year in the making, my paper to
@hackneycouncil
cabinet on Monday, genuinely affordable private rent homes at 1/3 of local incomes, longer tenancies and rent control
#prs
#ukhousing
From today, every primary school child in London will receive
#FreeSchoolMeals
This initiative from
@SadiqKhan
will help alleviate childhood hunger in London in a
#CostOfLivingCrisis
It will support Londoners, and save families up to £440 per child.
Won’t be re-sharing thé appalling video, but
@SadiqKhan
has been an excellent Mayor, and will be again. These racists need to crawl back under the rock they came from. Your views are not Londoners’ views
It was a real pleasure to welcome housing campaigner
@KwajoHousing
to City Hall. A good set of challenges and solutions setting out comprehensive reform private rented and social housing in London and across the country. My
@CityHallLabour
colleagues and I look forward to more.
The ballot’s closed! Thank you to everyone who’ supported me over the last year of this selection process, and to everyone who’s taken part in the last two weeks of voting. It’s been a real slog, but I’ve made some new friends along the way. Will keep you posted with the outcome
Proud to be standing on 2 May as a
@CoopParty
candidate, sister party to
@UKLabour
. The five missions for London are achievable, ambitious and deliverable by
@SadiqKhan
.
Make sure to cast
#threevoteslabour
for Mayor, Assembly constituency and List members to make this a reality
Congratulations to
@carowoodley
on being elected the new Mayor of Hackney, the first woman to hold the role. V moving speech from Caroline, outlining her priorities and the fact we in Hacjney have more in common than that which divides. Really important as we look to the future.
My heart is in my mouth with the passing of Rabbi Pinter. Such a great community leader, both in the Labour Party in Hackney and charedi community of Stamford Hill and beyond. RIP
Rabbi Avraham Pinter, an influential Orthodox Jewish leader from Stamford Hill, London, with close ties to the British Labour Party, passed away from coronavirus. He was the first rabbi to become a local councillor (in Hackney borough council) in 1982.
London has always been a place of sanctuary, welcoming people to our city. I welcome
@MayorofLondon
‘s call on the government to make sure our boroughs can support Afghans seeking refuge from the crisis unfolding
#Refugees
#
London has a proud history of providing refuge to those seeking sanctuary and we again stand ready to help.
I’m urging the Government to give boroughs the financial support they need to resettle Afghan families and help them build a stable future.

Pleased to make the final round for
@LondonAssembly
selections - in a few weeks
@UKLabour
members in Hackney, Islington and Waltham Forest will receive e-ballots to decide their next Assembly Member. I’m seeking your vote to represent these three amazing boroughs
#supportsem
After learning the story of Len Maloney, I secured a commitment from
@MayorofLondon
to look at what can be done by
@TfL
, who have treated Len poorly, tripling his rent and expecting him to leave Kingsland Arches this summer.

A massive thank you to all delegates who cast their votes at

for an NCC focused on making sure we are ready for the coming fight to win with voters to return Keir Starmer as our Prime Minister, leading a Labour government.
Massive congratulations to all 5 candidates for the National Constitutional Committee 🌹🌹
We are moving forward as a Labour Party towards a party focused on delivering for the nation, and the NCC has a major part to play in that
Bold vision from
@SadiqKhan
to end rough sleeping by 2030 in London if elected on 2 May. A breath of fresh air compared to Tories’ performative cruelty since 2010.
✅£10m funding
✅homelessness hubs network

Honoured to speak to and meet Hackney women today, where we shared our experiences as women in public life and serve our community.

God, Suella Braverman is a spiteful little woman. Shocking second part of her statement, with no humanity and withdrawing us from any assistance to those seeking refuge on our shores. She knows, as we all do, that there are no safe and legal routes to come here.
Trade unions’ work is more important than ever, whether it’s fighting for better terms for workers, or pay in the
