For gifts this holiday season, please consider buying books, especially well-researched, non-fiction books. Because if you don't buy them, they won't get published in the future. Not everything worth knowing can be found in a tweet or a ChatGPT search.

Does it really make a difference if students read whole books rather than only brief texts & excerpts? Evidence indicates the answer is "yes." Plus it's a lot more engaging. @DougLemov @karenvaites @HKorbey See my new piece in American Educator: https://t.co/0nXmzY4fDX

Multilingualism is like a kaleidoscope, vibrant, dynamic, ever-changing, and forever transforming into something new and beautiful. As new languages are folded in, additional layers of complexity are created. Much like a kaleidoscope, patterns emerge and a multilingual learner

Surprisingly large correlations between fine motor skills and academic outcomes. Biggest correlate is ability using a pencil/pen. True for adults too. Humans are embodied creatures. Our hands help our brains to learn.

I realize most of these kids of the highly-educated will be given screens at some point but I feel fairly confident that their screen time will be limited and supervised and they’ll be encouraged to read books and go outside. Kids with fewer resources really are going to be more

Fact: school districts across the country are facing budget shortfalls. Fact: huge investments districts have made in technology have not led to increased student learning. I’m no education expert, but I feel like theres a solution in there somewhere.
