Lucky teachers!.
A first for everything: principals cornering me on break to identify what THEY can de-implement. Off camera? Admin blasting Let It Go while axing ‘I can’ statements + TpT junk and so many teacher cheers ✨ #Deimplementation . Thank YOU Butler SD! @AIMtoLearn

The latest “Sold a Story” episode is out. For reference, programs like UFLI foundations would not exist without federal reading research funding. Who are these cuts benefitting? .Here is a hint: it is not the students or the teachers.

I think there are many reasons why teachers are not vocal about their advocacy efforts for kids within the educational system. I get it. There are many reasons for this and everyone situation is different. But let me tell you this, I think it’s important that teachers start.
@BenisonMrs Thank you!. And after 3 years of arguing with admin that my kids can’t read & graduating non reading 8th graders to HS (😡), my principal is buying the StoryShares program for me. It’s FANTASTIC, especially designed for older students. I am so excited about this year!.

I was lucky that around my 2nd or 3rd year as a teacher I was partnered with a teacher who knew this and lived this. I learned from her that every behavior I expected from my students needed to be explicitly taught and modeled starting on day one. Without this piece, I don’t.
Some behaviors are more important than others to focus on first. A posture of attention. Walking behaviors in the hallway. Lining up. Packing up. Sitting on the carpet. Participation norms. What people get wrong is you can’t just describe them. You have to teach them explicitly.
