Did you know: there are 250,000 hectares of south facing COMMERCIAL roof space in the UK? This could provide approximately 50% of the UKโs electricity demand. (Source: BRE National Solar Centre). Add to that domestic roof space. No excuse to use best farmland. Use it for food!

Of all the planning reform ideas I have ever seen, this is probably the dumbest. Requiring bricks in all new dwellings (including those w/o bricks?) to have holes so that swifts, and bats, and all manner of vermin can make nests in your walls should not be the law of the land.

A propos of nothing, I was reflecting this morning how developers, land owners, the councils all told us we'd lose our local campaign. That often felt very demoralising, but we carried on with an evidence based campaign and won. So, thought for the day: ignore naysayers!

This little chap was found under a nest in a tree on Armada Way, a few days after they came in the night and cut down a tree whose canopy overlapped the tree the nest was in. Presumably abandoned by its parents after the incredibly stressful and noisy hours of felling.

Depressing how often I have to explain this to people about our garden. Every bit of scruffiness is intentional for wildlife
If you are in charge of even the smallest piece of land, itโs important to remember that itโs the rough, untidy edges and corners that get wildlife through freezing weather; long grasses, fat hedges, wood piles. Ruthless tidiness makes life so much harder for wild creatures.

This area of farmland has been left unmanaged for several years & the natural regeneration of trees & scrub is well underway. In order to get paid for growing trees this would have to be cleared to plant trees, it's ridiculous!
