Eric Adams IS NOT our ‘Bus Mayor’.
In a letter penned to
@NYCMayor
by 10 of our Bronx leaders, riders call it quits with Mayor Adams after more than a year of empty, unkept promises have stymied meaningful progress on what was to be 150+ miles of new bus priority projects.
The Senate just adjourned until 430p tomorrow afternoon. At that point, Chuck Schumer is expected to be Senate majority leader after the three new Democratic senators are sworn in and after Kamala Harris becomes Vice President.
We talked to more bus riders to hear their thoughts on
@NYCMayor
cancelling plans for bus improvements on Fordham Road at the request of 7 rich white people who don't even live in the Bronx.
Once again, they did not disappoint.
“Bus speeds should be faster; however, it cannot be accomplished at the expense of the community at large,”
My brother in Christ, bus riders *are* the community at large.
We're disturbed to see
@GovKathyHochul
deploy the National Guard to check bags in subway entrances as a core part of her safety response -- a measure that evokes stop-and-frisk and will undoubtedly target Black and brown riders in greater proportion.

The $750k in question could be covered by adding $15 to a $315 entrance fee, ~5% increase.
Making this a 'congestion pricing money grab' story is a spot on example of how the wealthy scoff at the concept of paying even a cent more for their exclusive access to our public spaces.
Former guy who repeatedly stole
@MTA
money to pay for pet projects now wants to defund reliable train signals, accessible stations, and thousands of new buses and subway cars for millions of New Yorkers?🙄

“...the MTA can no longer be permitted to fast-track a proposal that solely benefits New York’s transportation system at the expense of hardworking New Jerseyans,”
Why is
@GovMurphy
so hellbent on erasing transit riding New Jerseyans, aka the vast majority of NJ's CBD commuters?
New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy is again pushing back on New York’s plan to charge motorists driving into Manhattan’s central business district, saying it violates the US Constitution
From
@amNewYork
: NYC buses running at slowest speeds since 2019.
It's worse than a failure. It's the direct result of policy choices by
@NYCMayor
that values the grievances of a minority of drivers over the time of 2 million daily bus riders.
This moment has been decades in the making and marks a monumental shift that will felt by millions of New Yorkers.
We can't overstate the gravity of this win and much is owed to the countless riders, elected leaders, and advocates who kept up the fight for years to make it here!
It's a historic day: Today, the MTA Board voted to approve the toll rates for the nation's first congestion pricing program. This program will reduce traffic in Manhattan's central business district, reduce pollution, and provide critical funding for transit improvements.

What's the logic? Block a lane for a bus that goes by every 10 minutes, so no can use the lane the other 9 minutes? Just building up pressure in the system, like taking the same 100 gallon of water and force it through 3inch pipe instead of a 5 inch, its stupid!
Instead of hiring hundreds of new MTA police,
@NYGovCuomo
can still choose to invest in more bus and train service. The Governor must amend the MTA budget and cancel the $249 million dollar expansion of the MTA police force!
IT'S OFFICIAL: Riders organized and built power amongst a broad coalition bound by a single belief — New Yorkers deserve frequent, reliable, world-class transit service.
Today, our efforts have payed off. We've won funding more frequent subway service!
Today,
@MTA
is likely to vote in support of a proposed budget that includes a fare hike to $2.90 a swipe. With ridership plateauing around 60% of pre-pandemic levels, higher fares will undoubtedly hit low-income riders who *can't* work from home the hardest.
Our subways should be resilient enough to shelter riders from a few inches of rain.
Yet
#CuomosMTA
is saying they have no immediate need for congestion pricing $$ to fix the subway 🤔🤔🤔
This is why it's so important for riders to speak up. All of these nonsense lawsuits backed by a minority of selfish, whiny Hamptonites are now getting new MTA projects cancelled.
And all because they think they're above taking the damn train.
New York’s MTA is suspending new construction contracts as lawsuits against a congestion pricing plan threaten the agency’s ability to pay for needed infrastructure upgrades

In a world class city like our own, anything less than

Another day on Fordham Road, where 85,000 bus riders get to slog though traffic and dodge reckless drivers.
We’ve tried giving cars priority over our public spaces—it sucks for *everyone*.
@NYCMayor
, Fordham Road needs a busway!
As extreme weather events increase with climate change, we urgently need to invest congestion pricing funds right away to

and make it more resilient.
did this man just "community feedback" a law passed in 2019 followed by 2+ years of public hearings with yet *another* round on the way before a final vote?
Just habitually unserious.
BREAKING: Does this sound like
@nycmayor
is a "strong supporter" of congestion pricing to you? Mayor now seeks community engagement process over exemptions to toll:
When
@NYC_DOT
announced plans for a major bus project on Fordham, it inspired hope in 85,000+ riders used to slow, unreliable trips and faded, casually ignored bus lanes.

Siding with influential suburbanites against the 70% of people along Fordham Road who support a busway and the 86% of Fordham shoppers who arrive by walking, bus, or train is a disgrace.
Even worse, as disappointing as this is, it's no surprise from so-called "Bus Mayor" Adams.
We signed on to a coalition effort we hoped would uplift working class bus riders — not billionaires— in New York's reopening and recovery.
We're ending our affiliation with

Congestion pricing is the key to bringing our transit system and city into the future with accessible stations, cleaner air, and safer streets.

With congestion pricing just around the corner, extending the G-Train to Forest Hills could help relieve overcrowded public transit lines.

Just, cartoon villain stuff.
This is a must-read.

Ending cash payment at subway booths while taking cash on board suburban commuter trains is totally inequitable and a slap in the face to low-income communities who have borne the brunt of the pandemic.

With the never ending media frenzy and political grandstanding over safety in the subway, we thought it'd be nice to hear from actual transit riders about how safe they feel taking the train.

Like on Fordham Road, wealthy execs and board chairs love to abuse their position to embarrass themselves, alienate their own members and the communities they claim to represent, and tarnish the name of their organization all to preserve their own perceived right to our streets.
