Challenging statement: the

is notoriously ungrateful about the people it has and dreams too much about the people it does not have. Invest in the people you already have.
Truro Cathedral - An Interim Dean for Truro Cathedral. By God’s grace, I have been called to a new ministry. I am very much looking forward to moving to Truro and to serving
@TruroCathedral
and
@DioTruro
.
I have just been asked to preside at Mass on a Holy Land Pilgrimage. ‘Would you like to preside at the Sea of Galilee?’ There is only one answer to such a question.
If you pray, pls pray for me and
@TruroCathedral
as I am installed as Interim Dean, for wisdom, grace, discernment, humility and that vital leadership quality of compassion. By God’s grace and to God’s glory alone.
@DioTruro
A decision: I am no longer going to open emails on Sundays. Praise. Worship. Psalm. Song, Scripture. Mass. Evensong. Contemplation. Fellowship. Friendship. And emails….no, they can wait until Mondays.
Such a joy to welcome this fabulous team of choristers, mentors and choir staff back to
@TruroCathedral
after their amazing
#Coronation
adventure. So proud of their contribution to the Coronation. Stunning ambassadors for Cornwall and

On being assaulted in church: As a confident clergy person, with years worth of experience of dealing with profoundly challenging people in schools and on playgrounds, I had very naively thought that I was safe in the pulpit and safe behind the altar.
Praying types, pls pray for the repose of the soul of Geoff, my secondary school headteacher. He was 100. He died today. He was an amazing person, bright as a button, a strong faith. He went to the church I came to faith in. I had great respect for him.
The longer I am single, the more I realise how important friends are. Much looking forward to the arrival of a good friend tomorrow, who will be here for the next five days. Looking forwards to eating a meal with another person.
Deeply moved and challenged by these words: ‘Let us not soundproof our hearts’ from Pope Francis. "Let us not soundproof our hearts; let us not remain barricaded in our certainties. So often our certainties can make us closed. Let us listen to one another."
I have just visited a much beloved parishioner who is very poorly and frail. I always find these moments deeply moving. They are what make sense of priesthood….no strategy, no action plans, no budgets….simply sitting, holding frail hands and praying to God.
Walking from the tube station to friends for dinner, I am asked by someone to pray and to give them a blessing. One of the many reasons I wear a dog collar in public.
Fabulous instruction for where I am preaching tomorrow: ‘You can park in the farmyard directly next to the church (welcome to Cornwall!) - just keep driving in a straight line when the tarmac runs out!’ I am so loving serving in Cornwall.
Wonderful moment this morning. During silent prayer I could hear the boy choristers practising Allegri’s Miserere. As they left, full of energy and getting on the minibus to school, I could hear them all carrying on singing the high notes! Clearly v excited.
@TruroCathedral
Anyone who needs a bit of sheer wonder, cuteness and a reminder of the beauty of the cycle of life…..here is the first new born lamb and her mother, born this morning! I think she will be called Eunice!

The Long Table
@TruroCathedral
a new venture. After being around God’s table we sit around the dining table, sharing fellowship and food. Grateful to God for the 6 new people who joined us for lunch. May this table be extended every time to those who need a place to sit.
Great conversation with mum who has gatecrashed a Dicoesan training tomorrow for ‘incumbents’ about leading during a pandemic. Mum reminded her Dicoese that they are in vacancy and church wardens should have been included. An invite appeared immediately. Just love her!!
Excellent
@sodalityofmary
day focused on Anglo Catholic church growth. A v challenging talk from Fr Johannes Arens who has grown a church from less than 20 to over 120 in about a year and half. 45% of his congregation are aged 20-40.
One of the people who has always inspired me is my mum. She has always stood up for the oppressed & marginalised. In retirement she continues to work tirelessly for the rights of refugees & homeless and gives hours to the Church as a churchwarden.
@TruroCathedral
@TownChurchRugby
Knowing the love, support and prayers of friends today! Many gathering in
@DioTruro
@TruroCathedral
in readiness for tomorrow. More arriving tomorrow, and many friends preparing to watch online from all around the world. Humbling and exciting.
My first Sunday as the substantive Dean of
@TruroCathedral
I will be preaching about the truly inclusive nature of God’s heart of welcome at the 10:00AM Choral Eucharist. Please join in the worship of Almighty God.
Today I have cancelled something and moved it into next week for my own well-being and in a drive to be more disciplined about saying ‘no, not yet and that can wait.’
#clergywellbeing
Acutely aware of a friend who is really struggling with grief. Praying also, on this Ash Wednesday, for anyone struggling with grief, anxiety and depression.
Yeah! Today’s the day! My mum, my uncle and his wife are arriving in Truro! It will be soooo good to see them this week and join them a little on their holiday in the beautiful county of Cornwall!
If you pray, please pray for me as I prepare to preach in
@TruroCathedral
@DioTruro
for this first time tomorrow. As I seek to break open God’s Holy word may we all be renewed and refreshed by the Holy Spirit. Luke 18 1-8 Prayer leading to Action….our calling as Evangelists.
Just this ~ a parishioner rings to ask if you they can buy you fish and chips for lunch tomorrow and that they will deliver said fish and chips, just to say thank you....Thank you so very much indeed. Much looking forward to my lunch tomorrow.
@BathWells
The only positive about insomnia is that from 04:33 to 06:43 I have written a newsletter, reflected on my sermon, sent and answered emails, changed the bed linen, put the washing on, sorted my summer shirts for storing and drunk copious amounts of tea. Now for the shopping!
Whilst loving the very many joyous tweets about ordinations, many of them of friends and colleagues, I am mindful of those who were not selected for training and the pain that this season heightens. Daily prayers assured from
@TruroCathedral
As a Diocesan Examining Chaplain, I have the privilege of meeting many candidates for ministerial formation. I have just met someone with the most markedly obvious vocation to priesthood that I have seen in years. It was so clear. What a joy.
@BathWells
One of the joys of
@sodalityofmary
is friendship.
@MthrSallyJones
is on holiday for ten days here. As a single person,it is such a joy to share a meal with a friend. If you know someone single invite them for supper, most of the time we eat alone.
All set for our Christmas dinner for nearly 70 children and their parents tomorrow as part of our after school Church. With grateful thanks to a very generous donor.

So many prayers for Stephen, for the faithful
@StBenetsCam
and for many friends as Reverend Canon Anna Matthews is laid to rest. May she rest on peace. Amen.
Praying for the community
@StBenetsCam
, for the family of Canon Anna Matthews and for the very many friends who will be gathering in Ely tomorrow. Rest eternal grant unto Anna, O Lord.
So grateful for the ministry of music
@TruroCathedral
for the hard work & dedication of
@TruroCathChoir
who give time so freely as well as being at school/work. And to the many choir parents & carers who shape much of their lives around a challenging daily timetable. Thank you
Very excited about this👇👇👇👇V excited indeed!!

@TruroCathedral
Join us for Choral Evensong 4pm Wed Thurs Fri and Sat and for the services this Sunday.
Warming up for this afternoon’s concerts in Stockholm 😍 in other news, our upstairs neighbours in our hotel decided to have a party until 7AM THIS MORNING. Can confirm doing 2 back-to-back concerts on 2 hours sleep is less than ideal. Next stop: sleep, then a week in Truro with
How amazing creation is! I have just picked this little chap out of a puddle in the garden. Watch how he is drying himself out. ‘The bee is more honoured than other animals, not because she labours but because she labours for others.’ St John Crysostom.
@churchofengland
One of the amazing privileges of being the Dean of
@TruroCathedral
is talking to members of the public who have never visited before. Today I have met a family from Australia, the grand-daughter of a stone mason and a group of teenagers who were amazed at the place.
Across the church clergy & laity work together. 3 of us have just tended a v sick parishioner.We also cleaned a filthy cat-litter tray & the kitchen & spoke to family. 2morrow,we will kneel in prayer & worship & I will preside at Mass. Together we are the Church.Priest & people.
These are my final photographs from the Holy Land, sunrise today, over the Sea of Galilee. Thank you to so many of you who have joined me on this incredible pilgrimage. May God continue to bless us as we journey onwards.

I love visiting my mum. There is something so comforting about falling into her house, sitting with a glass of wine, catching up, laughing and reminiscing that I find resets me emotionally. ….and it is just wonderful not having to think about anything and just rest.
A very significant person in my life died last week. Another good and Godly friend has sent this beautiful card. It is good to know that I am held in prayer.
I came to faith in St Andrew's Rugby, was called to priesthood in St Andrew's Rugby, ordained in the Cathedral of St Andrew, Wells & serve in St Andrew's, Minehead. Mum came to faith in the church of St Andrew and is Churchwarden there. Something wonderful is going on!
I am being reminded of why
@sodalityofmary
is so important to me, compassion, care and mutual support through the challenges of our lives. I am more and more convinced that we all need ‘community,’ whether we are ordained or not, religious or not.
After my 1st Covid 19 jab, I had the best night of sleep. I also dreamt I was on the bridge of the Star Ship Enterprise! I had my 2nd Covid 19 jab yesterday. Again, I slept like a baby last night and again, I dreamt I was on the Star Ship Enterprise! What is that all about...???
Sunrise photograph number 4 at the Sea of Galilee. It is slightly hazy at 05:50 but nonetheless a true joy to sit, contemplate and pray as this small part of creation wakes up.

Praying for Chris, as he moves to Cambridge this weekend. He leaves an immense legacy
@TruroCathedral
@TruroCathChoir
May his ministry of music continue to inspire in a different part of God’s kingdom. Thank you, Chris! Go well, thou good and faithful servant of the Lord.
Much looking forward to welcoming and installing James Anderson-Besant as the new director of music
@TruroCathedral
. Many prayers for his new ministry amongst us. To the glory of God.
@DioTruro
And here is Rosie again, she is such a joyous sheep, rather like a big woolly bear, full of life and very relational.

The joys of rural ministry.
Two beautiful and perceptive comments to me today
@TruroCathedral
‘It’s really obvious you like being with us, it’s delightful to see.’ ‘I can see that you are happy here.’ YES! Praise God for this place and these people.
@DioTruro
@pmounstephen
3/3 Our conversation ended, we shook hands. He said…if my eyes do not remember you, my heart will! What a message, our eyes may not remember one another, but our hearts will. Praise God for such holy moments.

A truly moving Choral Evensong

@DioTruro
yesterday installing me as Canon Missioner and Interim Dean. Thank you to you all. May God bless our offerings of our lives. May we grow in love, faith, wisdom and see many come to faith.
From a truly hopefilled licensing back to
@TruroCathedral
to listen to some of the full peal being rung by the brilliant cathedral bell-ringers. The peal is in honour of my installation as Dean. I am sitting listening and giving thanks to God for the cathedral and
@DioTruro
I am trying to be ‘on the floor’ of
@TruroCathedral
as much as possible. Today, a 5yr old asked me ‘What does God look like?’ It was good to explain how we see signs of God everywhere and in each other. I sent him to the high altar to see a vision of Heaven.
Every time I visit someone in their home who is in distress it is a powerful reminder me that what people want & what the Church of England needs is Parish priests, faithful in prayer, able to cry with their parishioner & always willing to drop things to make an immediate visit.
With
#strictly
in mind, I think that tomorrow in church, we will both sing and dance the Magnificat. I am convinced that Mary would have danced the Magnificat full of joy in her body and soul.
Three years ago today, my dear and wonderful friend Tania died, suddenly and unexpectedly. We were the same age and had known each other for decades, seen each other through ups and downs and sought each other’s counsel. I miss her immensely. May she rest in peace. Amen.
Today, sitting with a parishioner, talking about their approaching death & their desire to ‘be with their beloved’ taught me more about priesthood than any book I have ever read. Every tear shed was holy. Every moment of silence was eternal. Every word of pain spoke of God.
Many years ago, someone told me to wrap my dog up if they were scared of fireworks. At the time I was mildly sceptical, however, it seems to work every year.
Seeing this at the Mount of Olives, was very moving. The Lord’s Prayer in Ukrainian. Constant prayers for all those fleeing violence, for the dead and for peace to descend across all war torn places of the world.
