Our latest work on a #nitrogenase-like enzyme, the methylthio-alkane reductase which surprisingly also contains large nitrogenase metalloclusters, the P-cluster and the [Fe8S9C]- (L)-cluster is now online: Have a look at the 🧵 by @AnaLagoMaciel.

Great collaboration with.@LennartSchada and @minrui_Ren on an #enzyme converting the #plastic component ethylene glycol to a feedstock chemical for microbes. Offering new ways to use plastic for developing biotechnological processes.
Ethylene glycol is widely used as monomer of the plastic PET. It is therefore very relevant as sustainable feedstock for microbial biotechnology. In our new paper in @NatureComms, we characterize efficient enzymes for ethylene glycol oxidation:

A must read for anybody interested in the evolution of life and how to construct phylogenies using structures .Outstanding work by @KaHochberg and co-workers. Congrats!.
New paper from the lab from @SriramGarg. We introduce a general substitution matrix for structural phylogenetics. I think this is a big deal, so read on below if you think deep history is important.
