Something has gone very wrong at the BBC.
Roisin Murphy is at the top of her game, an award winning acclaimed British artist with a current chart topping album.
And yet the BBC doesn't want to acknowledge she exists.

It has taken me 24 hours to process what I saw on Parliament TV. I saw two women from opposing parties expressing their sincere concerns about how women's sex-based protections are damaged by self identification of sex.
And they were shouted down in the most intimidating way.
Thoughts on cis.
It is a term which indicates that one accepts it is possible for there to be two kinds of women.
I don’t accept this.
There is a legal fiction that in limited circumstances people with certificates can require institutions to conceal their sex.
Magdalen Berns urged us to speak in our own names. I didn’t do it.
She died and I mourned an articulate public speaker, cutting wit and an important GC voice.
Emma Hilton started tweeting in her own name in tribute to Magdalen.
I gathered my courage.
Can you be braver?
If your reaction to the new EHRC guidance on single sex guidance is that it should be thrown in the bin.
Then this reveals something of your attitude to women and single sex spaces...
One size does not fit all.
Young girls deserve single sex spaces. When we remove those spaces we shrink their world.
She needed a chaperone back to her car.
We have turned the clock back more than 100 years on sex equality
Don’t take your legal advice from Stonewall.
The Forstater Judgment today focused on whether a woman‘a statement of her belief that sex matters and it cannot be changed merited protection from discrimination.
Today's judgement on a well-publicised employment tribunal does not change the reality of trans people's workplace protection.
No-one has the right to discriminate against, or harass, trans people simply because they disagree with their existence and participation in society.
On Radio 4 Graham Norton is asked if he thought JK Rowling is a transphobe. He dodges the question and says she is fuelling the fire.... the term debate is unhelpful and there should be a negotiation.
I take from his answers that he’s well aware that no debate is over
You would think that a charity set up to address a health condition that only affects women and girls might have good reason to appoint a female CEO.
Really sad about this.
We are excited to share with you all that we welcome Steph (
@PompeySteph

The word “Terf”
This is a form of abuse applied to people with the same shared protected characteristic (or 2 - philosophical belief and sex).
Using it at work will harass co-workers.
Using it in elected office will signal disrespect for human rights.
JK Rowling released her new children’s book “The Ickabog” chapter by chapter over the long Lockdown summer.
My little ones checked her website every day for updates. The older one discovered a passion for reading which 3 years of stilted, tough, hard-won learning had stifled...

A century has only just passed
The irony of transactivists talking about rolling back rights ...
...as they attempt to remove women from the public sphere.
Diva magazine blocking dissenting lesbians and its editor hiding replies from lesbians who disagree with her about the basis of their own sexual orientation is worth noting.
I’m very sad to see the attacks which JKR has had to endure this summer.
Whether the arts shares her stance on women’s human rights or not, it should not be wishing her dead.
I’m not much of a one for hashtags but

I have been accused of “bad faith” by some of the great and the good in legal circles. Possibly the greatest and the best in fact.
Why?
Because I believe that sex matters.
ALL humans have equality rights based on our protected characteristics. Sometimes those rights conflict. It’s legitimate to be concerned if one group with those PCs is prioritised over another.
Ridiculing those concerns and calling people names is a propaganda technique.
Imagine advocating for women and girls
Imagine campaigning for a solution to male violence
Imagine trying to do so without the means to communicate your message
If a trustee of a charity formed to advocate for women’s rights tells you she is too scared to speak up for women and/or that women who passionately advocate for their own rights are “mean” ...

Practicing lawyer who has represented tens of thousands of equal pay claimants. Every single claim was on the basis of sex.
I have never run a perceived sex claim.
Another attack on Kishwer Falkner and the EHRC by POT ("Pissed Off Trannies").
These are the same group that carried out a dirty protest in September last year.
It has been a campaign of smears and indimidation against the EHRC doing its job

Vilification of trans people to distract from mess country is in.
How about asking MPs if they will eradicate Homelessness & Child Poverty?
Let’s have a respectful debate about the conflict between sex and gender where GC thinkers and feminists aren’t dehumanised or threatened - and particularly not by powerful men.
Alessandra Asteriti and I were quite annoyed about how women’s sex based rights were being discussed and written off by the legal establishment.
The Modern Law Review bravely published our article.
Human rights do conflict and are always held in balance.
If your reaction to our human rights watchdog stating that there a human rights conflicts which need to be acknowledged is to try and get its chief sacked then you have probably lost your sense of balance.
JKRowling’s Ickabog lit a fire for my dyslexic 7 year old. We now have a reader.
JK’s blogpost last year lit up the U.K. debate about sex and gender. My Spanish mother in law can now quote her.
She’s a very important person for the women in my family
Sonia is so clear here;
1. Social transition may embed the medical condition of gender dysphoria rather than help children to overcome it. Doctors must be involved
2. School children are entitled to sex-based protections under the Equality Act, gender does not remove them.
On Politics Live: schools need clear guidance on gender self-ID grounded in (i) clinical insight: the Cass review said social transition cd have long term psychological impacts on children (ii) the law that all children have right to access single-sex toilets & changing rooms
There’s a propaganda technique called
“Poisoning the Well”
Dragging a political opponent before they speak so that listeners are primed to discount their arguments.
This is not impartial broadcasting. It is propaganda
Tense music.... the celebs are preparing for their next interview. Suzi tells us how she fears they might be "platforming some quite hateful views". She tells us how toxic it is and how it becomes a "slagging match". Suzi resolutely declares "I don't want any part of that!". /3
Trevor Noah has long championed gender ideology and smeared women and girls who dissent as transphobic.
He is between a rock and a hard place now. A lesson to politicians
Ridicule sex realism and you will end up looking ridiculous.
One of the hardest questions is surely,
“Why have you allowed yourself to be misled on the law?”
How embarrassing to have paid a legally illiterate organisation to train your lawyers.
Or if you are CEO of a Women’s Foundation Trust and you decide to follow your friend’s advice to ignore the EHRC’s expert guidance on single sex spaces....
I’d have hoped you would have taken a minute to ask your legal team to undertake due diligence.
The BBC demonstrating how to smear and intimidate GC feminists.
Before they interviewed her they denigrated her behind her back to viewers
Then they cornered her and interrogated her. Finally they sneered at her. Again behind her back.
This is Mean Girls at work.

Always happy to meet up and explain the single sex exceptions.
They are throughout the Equality Act, not a footnote and they are the basis for acknowledging that women have different needs from men on the basis of sex.
Then it seems sensible to conclude that the charity in question is probably not doing a very good job.
Other women’s rights organisations are not scared and are working hard to help women be braver.
Rowling’s imagination, verve and storytelling brilliance cannot be ignored. She has helped generations of children to discover a love of literature.
Good writers become good friends. Children’s writers become part of the family. That kind of bond endures.
But hasn’t quite cottoned on that insinuating that women who express an opinion are nasty agitators won’t work anymore.
Nor that reality is not something with which you can negotiate. We won’t be hostages to someone else’s political agenda.
Academics who argue that invocation of single sex laws are bigotry make me feel unsafe,
I campaign for better understanding of the law.
I don’t campaign against them or threaten their careers, livelihoods or personal safety.
One side of this debate is toxic,
We stand in solidarity with
@stonewall
@genderintell
and the other organisations applying to intervene in the appeal. It's vital that every child receives the highest attainable standard of healthcare without discrimination.
And they appear to think that “cisgender” is still a neutral term.
It’s not. It’s undefined in law and relies upon a sexist definition of gender which many feminists reject. It’s from an ideological vocabulary
Forstater Judgment on damages is out.
The section on Aggravated Damages is going to be very important in philosophical belief (and religious) discrimination claims.
BREAKING: My crowdfund is back up! Please drop by, take a look, read how Stonewall is liable, donate if you can & spread the word!
I can stop Stonewall from policing free speech & imposing its gender theories on the population but I need your support.
Significant that the Equality and Human Rights Commission is highlighting concerns about the human rights mistakes made when sex is not considered.
We think sex matters in the human rights context and we are glad that we are being listened to.
This is bullying and not the first time
@RosieDuffield1
has been singled out for censure.
@Keir_Starmer
would do well to reflect that there is an outstanding court case to determine whether the belief that “sex matters” in feminism requires protection from discrimination.
LGBT+ Labour Scotland calls for Rosie Duffield MP to have the whip withdrawn. Despite attempts to reach out and educate, she continues to like transphobic content on Twitter and mock those raising concerns. This is unacceptable behaviour from a Labour MP.
@Keir_Starmer
Anyone who publicly stands up for sex based rights and particularly women’s sex based rights should make themselves aware of propaganda techniques which will be used against them.
@NickCohen4
@spectator
Nick, I have no interest in reading the book but from your summary in the above article, the book appears to feature a male killer, who is described as being dressed as a woman. You actually quote this (below). So what is the issue with our headline that says the same thing?
Linking gender criticism with the destruction of rights is a completely incorrect reading of Forstater.
Are judges really still being told that gender critical campaigns are about destroying rights?
We are back to legally illiterate comparisons with fascism again.
This morning, a group of over 100 barristers, pupils and students sent a letter to Middle Temple to express our profound disappointment at the organisation of the inaugural Middle Temple LGBTQ+ Forum. This is the letter in full. Please read it.
Possibly the most satisfying cross examination I’ve witnessed.
Ben Cooper QC elegantly exposes CGD’s oppressive and discriminatory behaviour.
Well worth reading.
Would you support a Black Lives Matter charity appointing a white CEO who says they are black?
A CEO who uses racist slurs and denigrates his critics as racist Nazis?
The above scenario is what is happening to women.
Emma Barnett rightly exposed this sexist appointment.

Is this politician saying that my granny doesn’t have the right to expect that the carer helping her shower should be female?
Does he think this is not a basic human right?
What about her dignity?
This would be illegal and completely unenforceable but even more disgracefully would seek to dismantle the human rights and dignity of trans people. In LGBT+ history month it is clearer than ever that we must stand up and speak out. 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️
Abortion is a sex-based right and healthcare provided to one sex.
Women.
American statistics on women’s healthcare and maternal deaths are terrible. Guess which sex bears the brunt of an abortion ban?
Sex matters
A revised version of the Equal Treatment Bench Book is out.
It’s interesting from the perspective of those of us who manifest our belief that sex matters.
If you tell teenagers that other people refusing to pretend to believe the same thing as them is hate and abuse...
Then you set them up to feel hated and abused every time they encounter dissent.
Why do organisations do this?
We moved on to Harry Potter and devoured book after book.
On returning to school we discovered that progress was such that teachers placed child in the same reading band as classmates.
No more struggling to keep up...No more battles about reading.
Insinuating that there may be “consequences” for academics who blow the whistle on bullying of a GC academic somewhat demonstrates the problem of bullying in academia.
As we left to get a coffee this was the response.

LGB are sexual orientations. T is about either gender reassignment (a process) or legal sex status (not a sexual orientation).
T people may well be LG or B in which case one would imagine they would be included.
Self Identification harms every one of women’s sex-based rights from equal pay, to women’s sports, to single sex spaces and services.
Mermaids don’t understand or care about women.
Given that the literary canon is by dominated male authors, I had thought that prizes such as this were intended to promote female authors and address that imbalance.
If not then what is it for?
Gender Critical students and staff have the Human Right to be protected from discrimination.
Universities have allowed a hostile environment to embed itself into student culture for years. It is past time they woke up.
Police checks on a charity leader’s thinking because she clearly stated that her women’s charity is single-sex..
Single-sex services are a necessary part of an egalitarian society.
Why are the police being used like this?
Single Sex Spaces and Sex Based Rights
1. Sex is a protected characteristic in the EqA2010. It is defined as being either male or female.
Everyone has a birth sex and a legal sex. Mostly they match. A small number of people change their legal sex.
I was at my child's school assembly today in which the pupils were celebrating their individuality, their diversity and compassion and respect for one another.
How can it be acceptable for politicians to drown out diverse opinions?
The EHRC submission today in front of the Employment Appeal Tribunal in the
#MayaAppeal
was that Maya’s belief - one which I share - is one that the Tribunal should have concluded was a protected belief.
Tomorrow the Lords debate a last minute amendment to the Domestic Abuse Bill which will import the concept of gender into misogyny and hurt women’s rights.
#DARVOAmendment87B
If you won’t argue that sex matters then you will find it difficult to argue for sex-based rights.
Because you conceded that they didn’t matter when you surrendered the language you needed to defend them.
Please let’s be attentive with our language. The fall of Roe v Wade is not just about a “woman’s right to choose.”
Women aren’t the only people who need abortions.
As women, we lose nothing when we speak of pregnant *people.* But in doing so we gain inclusivity.
Mocking safeguarding is such a feminist enterprise isn’t it?
This is the author nominated for the Women’s Prize for Fiction . Someone who may (or may not) be recognised as a woman under U.K. law. The Women’s Prize decided upon inclusion as a woman.
The Scottish Government needs to consider whether it wants women to have sex-based rights or not.
If it wants to remove those rights it needs to, at the very least, be transparent and honest about it.
Sex-based rights are human rights and they are absolutely necessary for practical, reality based feminism.
Article 14 of the Human Rights Act requires that we have the right not to be discriminated against on the basis of sex.
Safety is absolutely paramount for all people in sports.
This is not achieved by banning trans women from women's rugby. It is not achieved by requiring trans men to undergo assessments that other men do not. 🏉
A blanket ban would be disproportionate and openly unfair.
@manueldries
@OU_Philosophy
It’s so sad to see that you have been persuaded that extending congratulations for a woman’s achievement is “taking sides”.
But I suppose this is what respect for totalitarianism looks like.
Today sex based rights - women’s rights - suffered a major setback in the Scottish courts.
Now, more than ever, it is important that we should be able to talk about how sex matters without suffering discrimination at work.
