I've been trying to explain this for two years now. N95s were designed primarily for male caucasian faces. KN95 and KF94 standards came about not because we wanted a knockoff mask standard, but because Asian faces could not pass fit tests with N95 masks.
Great study shows todays respirators, & respirator standards, are not great for HCWs esp females, & non-whites.
First, the NIOSH bivariate panel is sized to fit white men, likely due to its roots in mining & heavy industry. Most HCW face sizes weren't even on the chart!
