New article from me and @TAH_Sci 🔥 . On what immunity debt actually means, and why it alone is sufficient to explain disturbances in seasonal communicable disease dynamics post pandemic.

Now acute flaccid myelitis (AFM) and EV-D68. Since the pandemic, epidemic spikes in EV-D68 with respiratory cases seems to have been decoupled from cases of AFM - but why…?!.

No proven treatments, although some experimental antivirals are around (one possible to repurpose from a Polio treatment).

Now Mark Azburg speaking about enterovirus disease, in particular neonatal severe enterovirus infection. Current diagnostics (usually PCR) don’t differentiate between different EV - is this good enough?. In different cases finding a Coxsackie or Echovirus makes a difference?.

Finally made it to @iicoxford (stupid trains). Managed to catch the end of @jcarapetis talking about Group A Strep - and the exciting prospect of vaccines!. Why has it not happened yet? Likely to get GBS vaccines before GAS. Fear over the MANY immune sequelae probably a factor.

Indeed, and in fact this is the most toxic chemical known to humankind - it has the lowest lethal dose (LD50) of any known substance. Which goes to prove the point - it's the dose that makes the poison.

Botox IS botulinum toxin, that's how it works You need to grow Clostridia & purify the toxin (which is deadly at nanogram doses, depending on whether inhaled, injected or eaten).

The main issue with vaccine safety is that *because vaccines are so safe*, it is difficult to detect the very rare (but important) safety signals. But we can! We did for the Covid-19 vaccines (myocarditis, VITT) and have for others. We WANT to find the safety signals. And we do.

2. We monitor for safety in trials anyway (that's usually my job!) and completely inert placebo is often unnecessary. As long as the safety of the comparator is already known, there is no reason you can't compare safety of a vaccine to a different, known safety profile.
