I can remember like it was yesterday the first time I climbed on top of a Tomcat to preflight my first flight in the jet (VF-124, Miramar, 1990). I had just passed my final FAM (familiarization) simulator where the instructor is another pilot who signs off on me being able to

Facts.
@RSE_VB One thing, the hook and a large part of the sled's structure is built in unobtanium, a secret metal alloy used only by Santa and the 3 wise man who also distribute toys on January 6th The alloy's formula is a tightly held secret

At the speeds that Santa and his sleigh have to move to visit every household in the world, he absolutely needs the ability to stop very quickly. The only way that’s possible is a tail hook system much like the Navy uses to arrest jets on a carrier. Here you see a replica of
@RSE_VB @TexSandlin I'm sitting here with my son, he's 11. He wants me to ask some F14 guys if Santa's sleigh might have a tail hook. Personally, I'm inclined to think yes but need a SME.

When Law Enforcement abrogates their responsibilities, every crime is a capital crime. We’re approaching that.
Sweden: 4 brothers who lured and kiIIed a sexual predator migrant taxi driver last year (and were convicted of it), who raped their 15-year-old sister, have been Acquitted on appeal for "hanging him until dead", as revenge for their sister's brutal assault. The court of appeals

It was self contained within the squadron and you could even drag the rag off the boat. I did that once. And yes there are TONS of funny stories about aerial gunnery with the tow banner. Yes, the tractor has been hit. I think one got shot down many years ago. Could be a
@RSE_VB I can't believe they were still using towed banners for gunnery practice at that time. You'd think a firebee drone would be preferable! They'd have to give me a two kilometer long cable if they wanted me flying that tow!

Mini #TomcatTail about dragging things behind the jet. In Fighters, we often tow a gunnery banner behind the jet on a cable attached to the tail hook lowering mechanism. It's rather complicated, as is the gunnery pattern so I won't dive deep into those. The point of this Tale
Yesterday, over Ft. Worth (Texas): USAF B-52 had his braking parachute accidentally deploy in midair. Crew got loose of it and landed safely. (In fact, hadn´t this been caught on video, nobody would have noticed it) 📹Eric Kilpatrick/X

Interesting story I heard recently in contrast to today's "in your cockpit/fox hole" Flag and General Officers. Here's a quick Wikipedia bio of Fleet Admiral Nimitz: "Chester William Nimitz was a fleet admiral in the United States Navy. He played a major role in the naval
@RSE_VB Long time ago, the local CINC was complaining about the old data in the briefs provided by his staff. So we put together Live Slides that did database pulls as the slide was brought up. CINC loved it. Staff hated it. Talk about people who hated surprises.

Self-help books for women vs. men aren’t selling the same story. If you walk through the self-help section and compare the books marketed to men with those aimed at women, the contrast is striking. The books for men tend to emphasize stoicism, discipline, and self-sufficiency:

The grand jury didn’t think so, nor do Texans. I’m with you to a point, though. But consider: 1. In these situations of high adrenaline, the guidance is to shoot until the assailant stops moving. That’s what he did. 2. More broadly, most people recognize that criminals have

Don’t get me started! Technology let a Flag Officer into my cockpit via FTI (Fast Tactical Imagery) back in the mid-90’s. We could beam our FLIR image back to the ship real time to presumably QA our target selection. That never happened, but we did beam back real time BDA.
@RSE_VB We should be concerned about any military operation being micromanaged, often in real time, by politicians.

Remember when the US Navy would launch some ships to go kick ass off the Barbary Coast captained by men like Stephen Decatur, and tell him to get it done and report back in three months?
I more concerned w/ the micro-management of ship's officers via SATCOM links to flag officers on dry land. Give those on the boat more opportunity to lead their charges than answer 100 questions every hour and see where that leads.
