The Lockheed Boeing AFX was an early 90’s proposal to replace the A-6, F-14, and F-111. This was a short lived proposal that was cancelled in 1993.
Still, it’s awesome to see that swing wings were still in equation for new aircraft into the 1990’s.

There’s a great story behind this photo. Long story short. The Eagles and Tomcat at AIMVAL / ACEVAL were forbidden to fight each other. Fighter pilots being fighter pilots they did it any way.
The Tomcats came out on top in this one.

The gorgeous OV-1 Mohawk on display at MAPS. Did you know that in 1968 a OV-1 pilot shot down a MiG-17 with mix of 50cal and FFAR’s? The army didn’t formally acknowledge the kill until 2007!!!

F-35 is a beast and I’m tired of people pretending that it isn’t.
This reminds me of the complains about F-35's top speed.
Like lmao, this thing is pulling Mach 1.6 with 5,700lbs of internal weapons payload and 18,000lbs of fuel . That's more than enough.

Our actions have in a large part led to this. NATO pushed up to Russias border despite verbal assurances after the fall of the wall that we would not move East. 🇷🇺 made it clear that 🇺🇦 was the red line. We assisted a coup in 🇺🇦. We have egged this situation on.

YA-7F. Sadly the USAF passed on this gem. In hindsight of the past 30 years, it is my mildly informed opinion that this would have been a fantastic plane for the GWOT.

A upgraded F-14D would be a better CAS platform than the A-10.
Faster TOT, Good loiter ability, two man crew, and for good measure 16 SDB’s in the tunnel.
My point isn’t that the Tomcat needs to come back, but that other platforms can do the CAS mission more effectively now.

F-35 haters need to realize it’s not 2014 anymore. The F-35 certainly took its sweet ass time to find its stride but now that it has… there isn’t a better fighter being produced in the world.

F-104 jet was one of the worst widowmakers industry ever designed yet it was defended by people close to the Military with hysterics,everything except the plane was blamed as a excuse but reality is it was a bad plane so is F-35 unlike Raptor or Tomcat.

On this day in 1960, the Grumman A-6 Intruder prototype flew for the first time. The Intruder’s twin-engined design increased reliability and delivered superior performance to other single-engine designs. This A-6E Intruder is on display at the Udvar-Hazy Center.

One area where the Navy exceeds the USAF… every. single. time. is when it comes to kick ass liveries. One of my all time favorite was the Batmobile from the VF-33 Starfighters.

All that being said… It might have worked if the formation work was Hornets and the solos were Tomcats.

I think that people underestimate the power of a modern AESA radar. Even if a 120 couldn’t lock on, the AESA radar on the F-22 could. It could then guide the 120 in SARH mode.
If they wanted the balloon down they could bring it down.

A hill I’m willing to die on.
The F-35C seems like a better candidate for FMS despite the higher initial cost. Longer range and probe and drogue compatibility seem like a no brainer to me when it comes to integrating into existing force structures.

BUNO 157982. She was the third Tomcat built and the oldest on display. You can meet her in person at the Cradle of Aviation Museum. She was used to determine the structural envelope as well as some more extreme flight conditions. If you haven’t been to the Cradle, you should.
