Agree with @tallpopp65, because weaker candidates spend too much time looking up and copying what they want to use. This is just a way round getting to know and understand the text.
@JohnBaldLangLit @BarbaraBleiman Cambridge IGCSE EngLit already includes an option of a passage-based Q for each section. In my experience, students don’t write better because they treat the passage as an unseen text. I have also taught their open book option. Worst results ever as students rely on the book.

One of the successes of the Mandarin Excellence Programme has been structured personal study for students between lessons. This is a similar approach, and it works. Back in the days of the History Boys, some of us wasted too much time outside lessons playing cards.

https://t.co/V0o8XKiKxP Where the Left, including @Guardian can bully and intimidate people, it takes pleasure in doing so. The rest is a matte of degree. My response and that of my wife is to buy @jk_rowling 's books.

Of course. Some HTs think pressurising staff is the solution. And too many politicians think overloading them with paperwork helps too. Toxic conflict of ideologies, and too little attention to real teaching.
@JohnBaldLangLit Fine line between having high expectations of staff and demoralising them. Sadly I’ve known leaders to not know where that line is. Also if you have high expectations of staff behaviour management, you need to match that with effective systems and support!

One might expect that these results would attract enthusiastic attention. They don't. Why not? No-one is suggesting they are made up - I am co-author of the Jerwood materials and, as @MichaelRosenYes points out, everything can be checked. So what is the problem?
I was pleased when the HT of a school that had just won a national award (Jerwood) for phonics made a round trip of almost 400 miles with senior staff to visit my centre in Essex and ask me to collaborate on publishing their work (Ginn Phonics Bank.) I was also pleased with

And this one on management Since my appraisal I just don’t feel comfortable being in school. My head slated me for my behavioural management even after teaching at the school for 7+ years. They even suggested that my ‘sparkle’ had gone and I wonder why?! He is forever degrading

Yes. Advocating shoplifting is politically irresponsible, and leads to shops closing in vulnerable areas.
don’t give a fuck about Polanski’s teeth, his name change or his acting career. I do care about: 1) He was willing to con people as a hypnotherapist. 2) He has provided cover for his Deputy who celebrated 7/10. 3) At best he’s indifferent to our NATO membership.

Brain research shows that learning consists of building and reinforcing neural networks. This implies that learning a new language is hardest at the beginning, as these are not in place. What are in place are the networks formed as we learned our first language. My late friend

From a reception teacher. Just wondering if there’s any legislations or union guidance on a child (EHCP Autism) who is biting and hurting staff regularly and pulling other children’s hair. My TA’s are getting horrible bites and kids are getting their hair pulled. I don’t think

@SBarrettBar You have to ask would this be allowed in any other religious setting like a mosque or a synagogue? No it wouldn't shame on the church of England And I am not Christian I am pagan

The Greens are now led by a gay man who speaks complete nonsense about women having a penis & tells us to accept men in women's sports. The willingness of a political party to accept such arrogance towards women speaks volumes about the misogyny that pervades public life.

And if teaching is not related to prior knowledge - see Dehaene - children can't learn, as there is little or nothing for new material to connect to.
Most teachers vastly underrate the importance of prior knowledge. Students with a lot can thrive in any classroom. Students with very little will flounder. This is why you need to explicitly teach all students what they need to know. That’s the equity everyone is searching for.
