Today, I am announcing the launch of my podcast, The Lou Holtz Show.
There is no one more passionate about restoring the culture of this country than me.
Thanks for all of your prayers for my wife, Beth. She needs them. I don't pray for her anymore; I pray to her. And being married for 57 years means that I am an expert on following instructions.
College football is back and so are the college bands! The band adds so much to the game. No other sport has a band perform. Thank you, band members! You spend as much time practicing as the teams.
Thought for the day: Everyone needs four things in life or you will have a void in your life. You need something to do, someone to love, someone to believe in, and something to hope for.
What’s the difference between athletes today and 40 years ago?
Today, they all talk about their rights and privileges.
40 years ago, we talked about our duties and responsibilities!
Thought for the day:
Life is short, live it.
Love is rare, grab it.
Anger is bad, dump it.
Fear is awful, face it.
Memory is sweet, cherish it.

4 years ago, I left ESPN and stopped tweeting.
@mark_may
has convinced me to do
@TheCrowdsLine
show with him. We did our first show and Mark is great, as always. He is also wrong in his picks, as always. (Get "The Crowd's Line" app!) You can expect more tweets from Lou Holtz!
I’m in the Holy Land! Yes, that means Notre Dame. They are honoring our ‘88 Championship team this weekend. Great party last night w Lou’s Lads, the players I coached for 11 years. The love the players have for one another is still there. 🍀
Headed to
@NotreDame
Friday to speak at the Notre Dame Licensing Summit. My wife’s sister will stay with her while I’m gone. I will go to the Grotto and light three candles. One for Beth, one for the
@FightingIrish
team, and one for you.
Game day and I must admit that I miss the excitement of the pre-game meal, team Mass, the bus trip to the stadium, and the thrill of competition. These feelings never leave a coach, regardless of the level of play.
Was in Naples, FL to help Governor Scott last night. On my way home, I was rear ended for the second time in 12 days, this time it was on I-75. Just got my car out of the repair shop 2 days ago from the last accident. Bruised and sore, but OK.
Smart move for NC State to cancel their game with WV. Last large hurricane to hit NC was in September 1999. My first game at SC vs. NC State - played the game. Mistake. Miserable conditions. Rained so hard that the animals gathered in pairs looking for Noah's Ark. We lost.
Will be at Notre Dame this weekend! Many of Lou's Lads will return as Notre Dame honors the 1988 National Championship team and celebrates a victory over Michigan!
@LousLads
Wish the NCAA would go to 8 team playoffs of the 5 power conference champions, the best of the other 5 conference teams, and 2 others, such as Notre Dame or conference runner-up. No conference champions should be denied the opportunity to be National Champions.
ND wasn’t the best team in the country today and might not have been the best team in the stadium, but they won the turnover battle 3-0. ND now is 3-0. Best we could be.
People worry about head injuries in football. I can solve this by taking the face mask off the helmet. Players would no longer use their head as a weapon. Why don't rugby players have head injuries? They don't wear a helmet, so they don't use their head.
I have known
@TimTebow
for years and have always been proud of him.
This week, he showed courage and leadership speaking before the House Judiciary Committee about children who are victims of sexual abuse and exploitation.
Keep it up, Tim. America needs your voice.

Last night, I got a message from a girl who has been rescued and she said, “thank you so much for speaking up for us”…and it was…
Thought for the day: One thing is certain, there will be one thing that will dominate your life. I strongly suggest it is something you can be proud of.
Picking
@LATechFB
to beat
@LSUfootball
Saturday in Baton Rouge. Not an upset. Upset is what my wife would be if I picked against her son. Last 2 years they lost to S. Carolina and Arkansas on the road by just 1 point on the last play of the game. They will not be intimidated.
We are all saddened by the loss of St. John's Coach John Gagliardi. I was privileged to write the foreword for his book and he was a good friend. He also was the winningest CFB coach of all time. Will miss him greatly.
The only friends you have in this world are those you eat with, sleep with, bleed with, pray with, and cry with, and that's your family and your teammates.
Great players come and go, but great teammates last a lifetime.
A team can only reach an emotional peak four times a year.
@NDFootball
reached one for Michigan, Stanford, and will do so for Southern Cal. The 4th may not be necessary. Don't worry when they don't play great against PITT, Ball State, etc.

Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid. (Unknown)
Mike Braun has three characteristics that I believe make him the right candidate in this race. Mike is trustworthy, he’s committed to excellence, and he cares more about the people around him than he does about satisfying his personal ambitions.
@braun4indiana
Spoke for Buffalo Wild Wings on Wednesday in Miami. Was in a car accident on I-95 as I was headed south, but I'm ok. Now I know how players feel when they are sore all over.
Flew to Omaha yesterday for Creighton Prep School’s fundraiser. A great event with 1,400 people, including 2 former ND players, as well as our team doctor. Came home by private plane. With my wife’s health, I don’t want to be gone overnight. Now going to film our TV show. Tired.
Tomorrow, the first vote of the CFB Playoff Selection Committee will be released. We know the first 3, but who are 4 & 5? Possible selections include LSU, Oklahoma, Ohio State, & UCF. (UCF should be no lower than 8.)

After watching what is going on in Washington with Judge Kavanaugh and the disclosure of the FISA documents, I now realize how easy coaching a big time program was compared to being a politician in Washington.
You never have the same team every week. This is why Arizona State beats Michigan State one week and the next week loses to San Diego State.
Confucius can’t explain it, nor can I.
The season starts tonight. Pay attention to the Oklahoma vs. Florida Atlantic game. I think it will be much closer than the experts think. FAU has a chance to win, even though the game is in Norman.
Nick Bosa is a great player. Can't say he was a great teammate. How you can let your teammates down when they need you the most is a question only he can answer. (Correction from a previous tweet referencing Joey Bosa.)
Congratulations to the Milwaukee Brewers for being in the National League Championship Series. Their Manager, Craig Counsell, played at Notre Dame and Pat Murphy, his bench coach, was the baseball coach at Notre Dame with us. A good friend and a great coach.
Had a great time at Notre Dame w my guests,
@IngrahamAngle
and
@RaymondArroyo
. I think they enjoyed themselves and were impressed with Notre Dame. NO place like it. Wish I could have stayed for the great IRISH victory, but I had to get back home to my wife who is in poor health.
I remember over 50 years ago when women won the battle to obtain equal access & opportunities in sports.
It's sad to see that this great Nation has regressed in such a way that women’s sports are no longer protected.
@SenTuberville
, a strong advocate for protecting women’s…
Impressive wins by Alabama, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, West Virginia, & Auburn. Alabama is scary with Tua at QB. My bad on FAU. Can’t believe they played so poorly.
Alabama is the most dominating team I have seen in many years. However, "There never was a horse that couldn’t be rode or a man that couldn’t be throwed." (Will James)
