Turning 47 soon, and I see life completely differently than I did at 27. Here’s what I wish I knew back then 🧵 1/ Being a present father is the highest form of masculinity

Especially in the early years. Who they hang around is up to you. Much easier to curate friends early. Yes there is some luck involved but intention wins the day. If the foundation is strong, the latter years will be much better

One of the biggest levers you have as a parent is the peer group. Nothing else comes close. "Parenting" loses out to the peers your kids have around them.

The evil against Charlie Kirk will leave you feeling down about the state of affairs. Get out and engage with the world because this negativity is NOT the majority. The demons are real but they're mostly confined to their computers, living a life of misery. Went to a concert

Many people smugly point out that Charlie said gun deaths are unfortunately worth it to keep the 2nd Amendment. In the same breath, they’ll claim he was a fascist. Not only did they not read the full quote - they don’t realize: the 2nd Amendment is the defense against fascism.

Dear @StephenKing, while it is laudable that you have apologized for your post, I would urge you to do the following: Examine why you had the impulse to post such a reaction when a young man had been assassinated. That you succumbed to your dark impulses speaks to your having

When you show love to one, turn to the other and do the same When you praise one, find a reason (valid) to praise the other During family conversations, shift the focus from one to the other... Each kid gets equal time to talk about their day, interests, and more

Never show favoritism Previous generations struggled with this... Celebrate each child's uniqueness and practice "equal time"

Repeat the last 2-3 words from their last sentence, then pause: They will likely keep talking... (this is a tactic from hostage negotiators, it works)

Talk about the choices YOU make & why you make them And invite their input! Example: Why should we go to X vs Y on vacation? (budget, air vs car travel, hotel vs Airbnb, dog boarding, etc) Engage them...you will be surprised!

Never say: "Don't tell mom" Parenting is a team sport, and even in jest, this phrase sets a bad precedent Kids thrive on unity, honesty, and consistency from their parents Always model a united front
