Happy birthday to Dame Margaret Beckett, the only remaining MP to have served as a minister in the Wilson or Callaghan governments. She was first elected in October 1974 and was among many other things the first woman to be foreign secretary and to lead the Labour Party.

Until 1998 an MP raising a point of order while the House was voting had to be "seated and covered", i.e. wearing a hat. Two opera hats were kept for this purpose - sometimes an MP would cover their head with an order paper while a hat was retrieved.
