In Sheffield, our Somaliland community is a valued and integral part of our city. UK policy must now align principle with reality and recognise the political facts on the ground. Somaliland has shown stability and democratic legitimacy for many years. Clinging to failed
Serious foreign policy must be rooted in reality. The UK’s policy on Somaliland requires urgent reconsideration. Our statement ⬇️ @YvetteCooperMP @JennyChapman @CPJElmore

I have been arguing with NIMBYs for over ten years and every single time I explain to them that new expensive housing reduces rents because it *absorbs* affluent people they just…act like I never said that, and keep yelling that the new housing isn’t affordable
Luxury Apartments Are Bringing Rent Down in Some Big Cities “New building openings are bringing rents down as wealthy tenants trade up, forcing landlords to drop prices for older apartments.” @business

Ahmed, you are an Australian hero. You put yourself at risk to save others, running towards danger on Bondi Beach and disarming a terrorist. In the worst of times, we see the best of Australians. And that's exactly what we saw on Sunday night. On behalf of every Australian, I

An insulting and demeaning world view. Black and Brown immigrants aren’t here to do the jobs that people like Zack Polanski think are beneath them. There is dignity and value in care work - that’s why Labour has introduced a historic Fair Pay Agreement for social care workers.
🚨NEW: Zack Polanksi on why we need migration: "I don’t know about you but I don't want to wipe someone's bum"

Strong disagree. We need investment in infrastructure to enable growth. We can't afford that without taxes. Cutting taxes and thus investment would be a disaster for growth outside of South East England where the infrastructure has already been built by UK government generosity.
Covid temporarily pushed the tax burden to a record high. Politicians are allowing this to become a permanent state of affairs. This can't go on. It crushes growth. They need to get a grip on spending, cut the taxes and regulations strangling our economy, and let it grow.

Whatever you think of how we measure relative poverty, and there are issues with it for sure, this is just plain factually wrong. Poverty is measured relative to median income, which would be unaffected by a lottery win (or any change in income above the median).
Consider the absurdity of 'relative poverty' as a measure. Tonight's Euromillions jackpot is £143m. If someone from the UK is lucky enough to win it, then relative poverty will instantly get worse. But nobody has got any poorer, while the country has in fact become richer.

I'm sorry, what? Green Peers voting with Tories and Lib Dems to undermine the Employment Rights Bill in the House of Lords.... 👀🟩
An open letter to @ZackPolanski We hope that Green Party Peers will see sense and commit to backing working people ✅

We already have capital gains tax, we put it up. We already have an Inheritance Tax, we put it up. We already have taxes on private jets, we put them up. We are busy making things fairer in the real world. Greens are busy planning how they'd crash the economy like Liz Truss
@rosie_wrighting Labour continue to do anything but tax the wealthy.

His ‘top priority’ is always Tower Hamlets… says Aspire Councillor, without a hint of irony He tried and failed to be a candidate in Bangladesh, whilst simulatenously getting paid by UK taxpayer to be a Councillor here No contrition No shame Kick them out at the ballot box
"What the HELL were you doing running in another country's election?!" The Tower Hamlets councillor who planned to stand in Bangladesh’s upcoming election has failed to win his party’s nomination. @samaramgill

Lord Glasman self-combusted more than a decade ago when he urged dialogue between Labour & the English Defence League. It’s a sign of the party’s malaise if this intellectual charlatan is getting a platform again.
Glasman: Labour will leave the ECHR in the end as judges - "a bunch of arrogant, unaccountable, useless people who protect Albanian drug dealers from getting deported" - won't take the hint from Mahmood

If you’ve got £100 a day to cover rent/mortgage, commuting, food, energy, insurance, childcare, and life’s small pleasures, you’re generally one of the richer people in society. We’re an increasingly poor country, and I don’t think people have quite grasped that fully.
£3,170 is the monthly take home for someone earning £47,000. Basically £100 a day to cover rent/mortgage, commuting, food, energy, insurance etc, and apparently you're 'rich' and should be taxed more. I can't believe they're going to do this.

I don't know for certain as I didn't train there, but I think in 2011 the Big 4 Graduate Salaries were around £28k. A 16% (nominal!) increase in starting salary in 14 years? Young people are getting a raw deal.
The Big Four firm said the move reflects better management of workloads, but the loss of the extra pay has riled some staff https://t.co/a9Eg2GVlCw

We should remove all legal obligations to consult. That would also remove one of the ways the judicial review system gets abused by opponents - "we weren't consulted properly". You might feel that way, but that's a political not a legal matter.
