He/him. Med Student. I love movies, history & socialism. In this house we believe Jake Gyllenhaal deserved an Oscar for Nightcrawler. CashApp: $ghostoffred
Philip Seymour Hoffman takes an underwritten, generic armsdealer character with 15-20 minutes of screentime and makes him one of the most chilling villains in the Mission Impossible series. Truly one of the best actors of all time.
This is the only scene in the fusion/color section of the film where we see Oppie from the perspective of someone else. It allows the audience to empathize with Kitty after her husband's infidelity is etched into the historical record. This scene is an essential part of the film.
The funniest scene in Dune 2 is when Lady Fenring tells the Reverend Mother that Feyd-Rautha is sexually vulnerable. It's Léa Seydoux! We're all sexually vulnerable in front of her!
"I have no choice but to continue to speak up, no matter how many times they want to censure me, police me, vilify me,"

tells us in an exclusive interview.
The way Scorsese conveys the erosion of Osage culture over the course of the film is so sad. When Mollie's mother dies, there's a lovely scene where she's welcomed into the afterlife by her ancestors. But towards the end of the film, Mollie's child gets a simple Catholic burial.
It's really fascinating how all the communists in Oppenheimer are portrayed as empathetic and kind whereas the anticommunists are just petty, vindictive, inhumane ghouls.
What are some examples of truly evil movies? Not necessarily in terms of depicting it, or thematizing it (or ideology/politics) but that truly feel like they’re channeling something awful into the world?(This was prompted by preparing a lecture on SPOORLOS).
Thelma Schoonmaker deserves massive props for taking a nearly incoherent script that bounces back & forth between characters across time and turning it into one of the coolest-looking Scorsese films ever made.
This is one of the most precipitous "rise and fall" stories I've ever seen. Like just a month ago people were talking about him like he's the new Pacino or De Niro.
@Lefty_Jew
This guy is a Republican Congressman who offered a scholarship to a 16 year old girl, started dating her when she was 18 & married her at 21. They had another kid last year 🤮. Republicans calling their opponents groomers & pedophiles is pure projection.
Happy birthday to our son Sam! He's one year old today. He's walking, exploring and he's always interested in what big brother is up to. We love you buddy!
In this scene & the one with Rabi on the train, Nolan does a great job highlighting Oppenheimer's class privilege. Unlike Strauss & Rabi, Oppie was born with a silver spoon. It doesn't bother Rabi because they're both scientists. But Strauss resents Oppenheimer's rich guy schtick
Nolan's Oppie is, above all, a coward. The man abandons his leftwing politics when he gets an opportunity to build the bomb. He ensures that it's used after Germany's surrender. He can't look at the pictures from Hiroshima. Strauss might be a bastard but he's right about Oppie.
Judd Apatow's claim that "comedy movies can't look good or they won't be funny" is incredibly stupid. Roger Deakins' cinematography makes The Big Lebowski one of the most gorgeous comedies ever made.
I think Boogie Nights is the best comedy ever made and is the antithesis to Judd Apatow’s claim that “comedy movies can’t look too good or they won’t be funny.”
"There might be a public outcry for a while, but then you know what happens? People forget. They don't remember, they don't care. They just don't care. It's just going to be another everyday common tragedy"
When Herman Blume meets Max Fischer's dad, he immediately understands why Max has been lying to him about his dad and his home life. It's one of the most quietly affecting scenes in Wes Anderson's oeuvre. Makes me cry everytime.
Earlier this year, writers and actors went on strike to advocate for better working conditions and protections. It led to important changes that will transform the industry for the better.
Here are some films that reflect their hard work over the last year — including some like…
@haalamakesfilm
The dialogue feels like a natural extension of these characters. It feels like something they would say rather than saying quippy bullshit for the sake of quippy bullshit
Spiderman 3 is leaps and bounds ahead of most superhero movies made in the last decade. It has a tone, a style and a personality. And jokes, real jokes. Eddie Brock going to church and asking God to kill Peter Parker is so funny.
The decision to make Hammond a jovial, old carnival barker rather than a greedy corporate ghoul (his character in the novel) was inspired. The part where Jon Hammond realizes that his dream is melting away like his icecream is really sad.
My last word on this subject is that Jessica Jones, for all its faults (didn't need to be 13 episodes long), does a much better job of genuinely exploring these themes rather than just...uh...saying them out loud.
#shehulk
might genuinely be the first time some young men hear a woman speak candidly about experiences like this. It might not seem like it but that’s hugely important.
If you can put aside Kanye's grotesque antisemitism, this is one of the funniest clips of all time. The cadence and the delivery rivals some of the best Trump content.
Hedwig isn't complicated. She wants to live in a nice house, grow vegatables in a big garden and raise her children. She's willing to overlook crimes against humanity for the good life.
There's something so beautiful and sad about how Scorsese captures the sense of euphoria as the little drops of "black gold" rain down on these men's bodies. Oil is their treasure after generations of suffering but with the white man's wealth comes the white man's greed.
“Wherever we go, this family is our fortress.”

I never noticed the PCI flag in The Godfather before! PCI is the Partito Comunista Italiano (The Communist Party of Italy). A majority of the partisans who fought against Mussolini were communists and the PCI would have won the election in 1948 if not for serious CIA meddling.
@zascmo
Yes! It's not just the funerals either. When Elizabeth, their first child is born, she gets a lavish Osage baby-naming ceremony. But towards the end when Anna is born, Mollie is surrounded only by Ernest, Hale and her white family.
Jennifer Lame deserved the Oscar for Best Editing because she makes Oppenheimer, a movie that's mostly made up of conversations, *feel* like a propulsive 2 hour blockbuster
Daniel Kaluya is unreal.
Within two movies, the guy went from giving a majestic, firecracker performance as Chairman Fred Hampton in Judas & The Black Messiah to playing a "Gary Cooper Strong and Silent Type" in Nope.
I hope he becomes to Peele what Leo/De Niro are to Scorsese
@marwilliamson
@vodkabooty
The settlements have grown at rate that makes it impossible for a two state solution. What we need is a one state solution with equal rights and representation for all. Incredibly disappointed. Bad fucking vibes.
If Scorsese proceeded with the first draft of Killers Of The Flower Moon where Leo played the FBI agent, the film would just be a better version of Mississippi Burning.
I'm glad Scorsese, Eric Roth and Leo rewrote the script with input from the Osage.
PAUL SCHRADER criticizes KILLERS OF THE FLOWER MOON:
“I would have preferred Leonardo DiCaprio to play the role of the cop in Killers of the Flower Moon rather than the role of the idiot. Spending 3.5 hours in the company of an idiot is a long time.”
Was Killers of the Flower Moon completely snubbed? Hardly surprising that the Academy wouldn't recognize a challenging work of art about the violent dispossesion of Native-Americans .
This movie is operating on such a different level. Sorkin & Boyle extract the fiercest presence from Fassbender and its entrancing. Now I’m probably gonna fire it up *again* tonight.
On the day of filming, the girl was unaware of what her scene entailed. By the time she made her way to a cramped room, she was naked, standing in front of nearly a dozen male cast and crew members including Josh and Benny Safdie.
I adore The Northman because it captures, unlike Gladiator, how people in the past had a totally different relationship to notions of honor, violence & justice. The scene where the kids are burnt alive is revolting to us but it's just the ancient version of dronebombing a wedding
RRR is a very complex movie. On the one hand, you have British colonialists getting devoured by tigers. But you also see lower caste people portrayed as illiterate simpletons. Much to think about.
Quaritch is a better villain in Avatar 2 because you can tell that Spider is the only thing that stops him from committing the Mý Lai massacre in that one scene.
Harry Reid is an establishment Democrat, but I think about this interview a lot. It reveals as much about Reid as it does about Bernie. Bernie really disliked Hillary, but got along with people, like Reid and Biden, who were nice to him. HRC was amazing at burning bridges.
Nancy Reagan spotted a weird mole on her friend Rock Hudson's chest when she visited him. Turns out Rock Hudson was a closeted gay man and contracted HIV/AIDS. When he reached out to her and Ronny to get experimental therapy, they pretended he didn't exist. Madonna rules btw.
Aubrey Plaza has been cast alongside Adam Driver, Forest Whitaker, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jon Voight and Laurence Fishburne in Francis Ford Coppola’s ‘MEGALOPOLIS’.

I really hope Jamie Foxx makes it out okay. He's a tremendous talent. Y'all remember when he whipped out an impeccable Trump impression last year out of nowhere.
I'm surprised that Mann heads on here don't talk about The Last of the Mohicans more. It's one of his most romantic films. It looks stunning and Magua is an incredible villain. The Trevor Jones score is one of my all-time favorites.
The US can't account for a video where the IDF murders a man waving a white flag. If they do, they'd have to investigate Israeli warcrimes. If they do that, they won't be able to send Israel, guilty of warcrimes, any weapons under the Leahy law. That's why the spox is tongue-tied
If you watch the video of Jonathan Glazer's speech you can see his far-right Zionist billionaire producer's face curdle in real time haha. This explains why Glazer was trembling as he was reading his statement.
convincing a far-right zionist billionaire to give you his money to make a movie, bringing him up with you on stage when you accept the Oscar for it, and then dropping the “fuck Israel” bomb while he’s standing right behind you on live TV is actually so baller
Can't believe some people consider The Hateful Eight a minor Tarantino work. It's a staggering film from a master with breathtaking visuals and terrific performances across the board.
A holier than thou mfer leaves his community to live a godly life in the wilderness with his family and he gets wrecked by a Satan goat. God this movie rocks!
Confirmed with her best friend that she is in fact single. She broke up with her boyfriend a few months ago. Will ask her out when I get a moment alone with her.
Hunter Schafer has been arrested after protesting with the Jewish Voice For Peace organization to advocate for a ceasefire to the genocide currently happening in Palestine.
Punch Drunk Love by way of Jane Eyre. An intoxicating, twisted tale of two wounded, fucked-up people who realize that the only way to love someone is by completely surrendering to them.
There are so many ways to critique the late period Soviet socialist system but Chernobyl, as compelling as it is, lays the propaganda on super thick lmao. This dude sounds like a villain from Red Dawn.
Ben Affleck gives his best performance in years as the wonderfully rambunctious Count Pierre d'Alençon. He steals every scene and adds humor to an otherwise grim film.
