The TV and film we consume seeps into our subconscious and shapes the way we think about the world — and what’s possible. What if there were more stories of regular people working together to solve problems and balance the scales?

Remembering that the 2018 Warner Bros. film “Crazy Rich Asians” made about $239 million globally. When it came time to make a sequel the two original co-writers were offered wildly different deals: The white guy around $1 million; the Asian woman around $110K

This part of the Jane Fonda/Lily Tomlin/Sally Field/Rita Moreno interview isn’t making the rounds probably because it’s not cute or uplifting or funny — but real. First of all I don’t think it’s uncommon to not have many friends left at 91. But her reticence is very relatable too

The idea of showing two adults absolutely tickled by one another — amused to be in one another’s presence — has been so conspicuously absent on screen, just generally, for a long time. I really hope their new movie together captures this delight!

oh The Racial Integrity Act of 1924 — which “reinforced racial segregation by prohibiting interracial marriage and classifying as ‘white’ a person ‘who has no trace whatsoever of any blood other than Caucasian’” — had a Pocahontas exception How rich

Next time a muckety muck claims they would love to hire more POC but there just aren't enough qualified people in the running let's remember this: No credits. They had NO CREDITS.

Has anyone ever explained why her hair is pinned up on one side and completely loose and down on the other? I’m convinced the “down” hair was photoshopped in because someone at the studio decided it looked more … something

Column: The complicated legacy of Norman Lear and "Good Times" The cast of "Good Times" and the show's co-creator Eric Monte pushed back on the show's depiction of Black people. Lear called those concerns "extraneous to the needs of a show" in his PBS doc

wrt Warner Bros. Discovery "killing off diversity and courting middle America": It betrays how EMPTY those black square corporate statements were in the weeks after George Floyd's murder. All it took was a mere 2 years to go by and a new executive team to say "nah, screw that"

Bob Barker had numerous lawsuits filed against him during his career about workplace conduct. People who grew up watching the show may be unaware because much of this was successfully buried. Time magazine story from 2011

Scrolled by a tweet that said “it’s not like they didn’t earn their billions” and baby, yes it is exactly like that. NOBODY “earns” their billions. There are a confluence of factors — from inherited wealth to tax incentives/write-offs to cronyism to legal but scummy deals.

@BryanUF @leahfrombklyn In addition to managers who want to *see* people work and therefore reject remote options, my theory is that these stories result from an amalgam of PR efforts from various industries predicated on in-office work: Commercial real estate, auto/commuter rails, etc.

For a long time whenever someone would post on here about journalism layoffs someone else would say nastily: “learn to code” — I always think about that whenever there are layoffs at tech co’s. It’s really scary & destabilizing to lose your job … being snarky about that is B A D

There's the obvious hypocrisy that HBO — sorry now it's **MAX** — is all too happy about the "very online conversation" when it fuels interest in "Succession" and "The White Lotus" and "Euphoria" But when it comes to this? Nothing to see here, folks

She beautiful. We know this. My beef with this look is not only that it’s nowhere near Gilded age but that’s she’s worn version of this in for The White Princess and The Last Duel and therefore this just looks like another costume for another role

@hiimbobbi To me it’s directly related to their skills as actors — Chastain/Issac are better and more nuanced performers than Sweeney/Lowell even when doing the PR side (they’re older and more experienced … but also just more talented imo 😂)

Ethan Hawke is just so great talking about the world around him — and by that I mean, expressing sometimes complicated or nuanced ideas in ways that are extremely accessible and thoughtful and fueled by an intellectual energy that doesn’t feel like his head is up his ass

I can't with her Nepotism isn't *just* about getting your foot in the door btw. It's about having access to info and support others just don't. Having a family that teaches you how things WORK in Hollywood — and also provides financial support — is as important as anything else.

@CarrieCnh12 All of this. It’s not unrealistic to assume she was coerced into that marriage as a condition of her release from being captivity. They were holding her hostage! If this is going be mentioned as part of the show, it’s worth reckoning with that history
