I began intently observing wildlife behaviour 30 years ago and was then given the opportunity of my dream job as a field assistant working for @BritNatureFilms! "Magic in the Meadow β Field Notes During the Making of a Wildlife Documentary"

Today @RSPBMinsmere the Hobby's were feeding well inbetween the rain showers catching dragonflies at acrobatic high speeds. They were coming right at the hide, and this was an opportunity to get some great action photos and everyone was enjoying the display of supreme hunting.

Each time I cross the threshold into this place crafted by deep geological time, heartbreaking human histories, incredible flora & fauna, the same sense of awe & belonging rises up. Ah! Wester Ross, you are utterly enchanting. View through torrential rain to Slioch & Loch Maree.

Red Campion relies on insect pollination, and is used as a larval food plant for 48 species of inverts! Native wildflowers are vital for the lifecycle of insects. To help biodiversity to thrive, you need some, or all, of these plants in your garden: https://t.co/LifkV8qdG4

You start out filming fish and then it all changes. π
Last few weeks have seen me filming a lot pollution in Yorkshire rivers underwater. And twice i have been covered in sh1t, once up to me knees, the second fully covered. Thankfully it never actually touches me due to my equipment. I started filming in rivers to film fish not sh1t

Valerian, Valeriana officinalis. The flowers are heavily scented, but the oil derived from the roots (used as a remedy for anxiety & insomnia) is variously described as smelling like stinky cheese, dirty feet & other things I am too polite to repeat. #WildflowerHour #StinkyPlants

@chemistrykaren It's heartbreaking. We joined Twitter to amplify campaigners' voices and help save the remaining #wildlife habitats in #Cambridgeshire, but two years on far too few people are aware of the scale of loss to our county. #SaveCotonOrchard π³π¦πβ

The link in this tweet is really useful and brilliant. It takes you to info about loads of wild plants and the insects that depend on them by @Haggewoods β¬οΈβ¬οΈβ¬οΈ
The view from my living room window is a sea of Oxeye Daisies! They are larval hosts to 69 species of insect, as well as providing abundant pollen and nectar! Please see just some of the beautiful insects that depend on them and other wildflowers here: https://t.co/LifkV8pFQw

My first Ringlet of the year today on the clouded Stroud Commons (June 12th last year). But we are in one of the deepest Insect June Gaps I've known: take the hive bees + scatter of bumbles away, & there's hardly anything on the wing - nothing emerging...

Herb Robert, aka Stinking Bob! The Wildlife Trust describes its: βunpleasant mousey scentβ. Gerard its βmost loathsome stinking smellβ. I donβt entirely disagree, yet, somehow it smells pleasant to me. Perhaps my nose is tuning into its medicinal properties! #StinkyPlants
