Westgate & Garlinge Action Group against housing developments on our farmland. Say no to 2000 houses on best farming land #foodsecurity
Isle of Thanet, Kent
Joined February 2021
In Thanet (40 sq miles) weβre losing 700 hectares prime farmland to 17140 unaffordable houses β¬οΈ Land currently growing high yields wheat, barley, osr, potatoes. Can we afford to lose all this land in a #FoodSecurity crisis?

And so we need nowhere near the 380,000 homes a year + new towns the government is intent on building . We only need 120,000 homes per annum. (And not one of those needs to be on greenfield. We have 3.5m alternatives https://t.co/TQXq1fg8EE) From https://t.co/8VcrKBSALi

What a short-sighted nation (or politicians) we are @riversideros @OurWestgate @NickyGeeson @SmartGrowthUK @StopWensumLink @HereforHereford
This gives an idea of the scale of building in the small district of Thanet. Land for 450 houses (Margate). The farmer was a tenant. The local plan is for 16700 more, mostly on grade1 agricultural land. Much of the land is tenanted so farmers have no say.

Landscape strategy here in the local plan aims to conserve the sense of tranquility, dark skies, the intact undeveloped rural character, the long views. Whatβs the point of agreeing a local plan when @nationalgriduk can then destroy what precious little we have? @CommonsEFRA
Thanetβs environment & wildlife continues to be under extreme pressure. Not only losing 700 haβs to housing but now @nationalgriduk plan to construct a massive converter station impacting our most precious habitats. Register to have your say by Monday 23rd . Info in comments.

Absolutely horrendous statistic. We lose our farmland and food security at our own peril.

There is something very wrong with National Grid's energy projects. They pick the most serene beautiful places possible and dump their infrastructure. This is Sea Link Kent.

Quite. Because the Affordable Housing Programme isnβt about social housing - thatβs a tiny percentage of what it delivers. Mostly it is just unaffordable βaffordablesβ such as rent capped at 80% of market or shared ownership with all its hidden and escalating charges
When you read the headline, you think βfinally, investment in social housing.β On reading article, you find out itβs above inflation rent rises for social tenants for a decade & subsidies for private developers to continue the βaffordable housingβ con. https://t.co/YBdWZ0uTal

Please see this all those of you who are always telling me that industrially farmed land is sterile and should therefore be concreted over

It's going to take more than a couple of new reservoirs to prevent the UK's coming water crisis writes hydrologist @hancloke - we need to rethink how we build homes & communities to avoid a future of alternating flood & drought: https://t.co/U5nsi1uTPB

A 1sqkm 28m high converter station plonked right next to an SSSI on marshland and drilled through a National Nature Reserve and precious salt marsh. Why are we letting private companies destroy our British countryside for profit? #saveminstermarshes #NoToNationalGrid

@Keir_Starmer @mhclg Our story is now on the cover of the @NewStatesman. Itβs not just us. This is happening all over the UK. The government is pushing to build 1.5 million homes. But whatβs the point of building if not even @Keir_Starmer, the Prime Minister, will protect the buyers?

I did everything right. I started a business, paid tax, and bought a new home. It was meant to be safe, a place to build a life. Itβs dangerously defective, worth Β£0, and our MP, @Keir_Starmer, is looking the other way. This is the housing trap. 𧡠https://t.co/l9ZpKYsZAa

Many people do not realise that a private company can obtain compulsory purchase powers under the Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects scheme so, if you are in the way of some corporate wishing to feather its nest and enrich its shareholders at your expense, beware.
Norfolk villagers to lose their homes under mass CPOs, what did I tell you? South Norfolk, along with other parts of Norfolk and Suffolk, is part of a designated and deregulated investment zone, a type of SEZ under the UK governmentβs flagship program. Norfolk and Suffolk were

New research from the Home Builders Federation highlights that lack of resources in local authorities and lack of a clear, standard process are key causes to delays in the delivery of new homes, not nature. So why is nature being used as a scapegoat? π€ (1/2)
