There are only 3 possibilities here: It was in the PDB or briefed to him but he didn’t bother to read or listen; the NSC/CIA deliberately kept it from him; or he knew and didn’t care because he wants to have a “good relationship” with a murderous autocrat. Pick your poison.

Ben, this is the seventh such investigation: IG Horowitz (twice), HOGR/House Judiciary, John Huber, SSCI, Durham (I presume), and now Senate Judiciary. Is this really the most important issue on the Senate's docket right now? Really?

Sen Judiciary Cmte having a hearing about rampant corruption and abuse--self-evidently rooted in bias--at the senior-most levels of law enforcement, and they scoff at it

My favorite part of the hearing was when Rosenstein said his two emails crowing about his plans to appoint Bob Mueller as Special Counsel were "taken out of context." Yeah, you don't say...

This may shape up to be an interesting test for Chris Wray as well. Multiple line-level FBI agents and analysts are being threatened with subpoena by Lindsay Graham's SJC. If Barr prohibits Zelinsky and Elias from testifying, will Wray protect his people and do the same with SJC?

The Department used to have a long tradition of protecting non-SES employees from appearing before Congress. It is time for a return to that practice.

Instead of doomscrolling, I decided do something productive with my time — so I donated to Lawfare. This publication is really important to people in government trying to hold the line. We read it daily. 1/

“I want you to know that in the last days and hours of my life you inspired me,” wrote Representative John Lewis, who penned this essay shortly before his death on July 17. We are publishing it today, on the day of his funeral.

And hi again. I’ve been on a full news and Twitter blackout for the last 19 days. Frankly I would have kept it up, but this point was important enough to break my ban.

David literally wrote the book about the PDB. Don't be fooled by newly manufactured spin about "vetting." Unless processes have changed dramatically under this president, substantiated disagreements would have been included with the initial assessment. 1/

Anyone claiming these things about the PDB is either profoundly ignorant or is knowingly lying to you. The core PDB, even for presidents who *did* read it voraciously, rarely even reached 20 pages. And for 55 years, *every* POTUS (possibly excepting of Nixon) has read it.

This is so important. There is the powerless you feel in the face of threats, and in my case, some bonus slut-shaming, but I also think it’s critical to remember that being targeted in this way is a very lonely, isolating experience. Which, of course, is the point.
