My book, “Attack from Within: How Disinformation is Sabotaging America,” reveals the tactics and dangers of disinformation and offers solutions. Democracy depends on truth. More here.
After being told repeatedly that there was no election fraud, Trump told DOJ leaders, “Just say the election was corrupt and leave the rest to me and Republican Congressmen.”
Aren’t we done here?
This is way better than any inaugural balls. I propose that this inclusive nationwide celebration permanently replace cocktails with the swells as the way we celebrate a new President.
#InaugurationDay
I’m writing a book! Working title is “Attack from Within: How Disinformation is Sabotaging American Democracy and the Rule of Law.” The project is a little daunting, but feels important at this moment. Wish me luck!
I know Dr Birx and Dr Fauci are being careful in their language to avoid upsetting Trump so they can continue to fight COVID-19, but at some point, they become enablers. This one crosses the line for me.
It seems to be a talking point to argue that
@USPS
should be killed off because it is not profitable. It is not intended to be profitable. Neither is the military or schools. They exist to serve, not to profit. Don’t fall for this scam.
Defense Secretary Esper promised there would be no retaliation against Lt Col Vindman for his testimony. He and his brother were removed and escorted from the White House today. All eyes are on you, Mr. Secretary.
Biggest political story of the decade is not Trump or impeachment, but GOP’s willingness to destroy the rule of law for political expediency. My grandfather would not recognize his Republican party. It’s like a star that flames bright red just before it dies.
I’ve been struggling to find the right metaphor to explain
@Comey
’s conduct. Here’s another try: Criticizing Comey’s conduct is like reprimanding Paul Revere for breaking curfew to warn that the British were coming.
DOJ concluded no criminal charges against Comey, IG found policy violations. Like the man who breaks into a house to save his family from a storm,
@Comey
may have broken FBI rules, but his actions were justified. My thoughts at
@NBCNews

Barr’s refusal to quarantine after exposure is not “toughness.” It is arrogant, irresponsible, and reckless behavior from our nation’s attorney general.
AG Barr told Fox News Russia investigation began without any basis. That is an objective lie. IG found the investigation was properly predicated. This is how disinformation spreads. We need to call it out.
Mueller did not establish conspiracy. That’s different from saying he found no collusion. Sometimes my father-in-law can’t find his car in the parking lot. That doesn’t mean his car is not there. We need to see the full report to understand the facts so we can safeguard elections
Time to challenge abortion bans on 1st Amendment grounds. Not every faith believes life begins at conception. If a baker may not be forced to bake a cake for a same-sex wedding on the basis of religious freedom, surely a woman can’t be forced to give birth
Because Mike Pompeo is the U.S. Secretary of State, our nation’s top diplomat, I can only conclude that this is a tribute to
@ewarren
and the little girls she has inspired. Anything else would be vulgar, sexist, demeaning, and incredibly offensive.
Nancy Pelosi today: "What the president did was so much worse than even what Richard Nixon did, but at some point, Richard Nixon cared about the country enough to recognize that this could not continue."
While a sitting President cannot be indicted, Giuliani can. More facts are needed, but if he brokered deal to trade dirt on Biden for foreign aid, he could be guilty of conspiracy to commit bribery. Trump would return to his familiar role as Individual 1.
Important point made at tonight’s Jan 6 hearing — Trump did not record his message telling mob to go home until after it had become clear that the attack would fail.
This may be the most sinister tweet Trump has ever posted. He is comparing himself with a king and threatening to use his powers for revenge on those who questioned his abuse of power. This after AG Barr said Trump’s tweets make it hard for him to do his job. Any response Mr. AG?
“Ralph Waldo Emerson seemed to foresee the lesson of the Senate Impeachment Trial of President Trump. ‘When you strike at the King, Emerson famously said, “you must kill him.’ Mr. Trump’s foes struck at him but did not take him down. A triumphant Mr.Trump emerges from the.....
Upon leaving office, Trump should be prosecuted for fraud for using his charity for personal and political expenses. Other people go to prison for this. The wealthy and powerful should not be able to buy their way out with a civil fine.
For next Jan 6 hearing, which will cover Trump’s 3 hours of inaction as the mob stormed the Capitol, resulting in 5 deaths, I will be thinking about a crime I have not yet heard discussed much: manslaughter.
Honored to testify before the House Judiciary Committee today to help explain obstruction of justice and how interference with Mueller’s investigation threatened our national security. My opening statement is posted here.
This is a lie. Mueller concluded that Russia interfered in our election, and Trump’s campaign worked to benefit from it. Trump’s lies are damaging our institutions and national security.
FBI Director Christopher Wray just admitted that the FISA Warrants and Survailence of my campaign were illegal. So was the Fake Dossier. THEREFORE, THE WHOLE SCAM INVESTIGATION, THE MUELLER REPORT AND EVERYTHING ELSE FOR THREE YEARS, WAS A FIXED HOAX. WHO PAYS THE PRICE?....
I have joined 1,100 DOJ alumni in support of the prosecutors who withdrew from the Roger Stone case after AG Barr intervened to seek leniency. Even the appearance of partisanship has no place in the fair administration of justice. Read our letter here.
The politics of this are frustrating. Let’s focus on the substance - Mueller found that Russia attacked America, Trump helped and then lied to cover it up. Mueller could not charge a sitting president with a crime. The process for addressing presidential misconduct is impeachment
This habit of committing crimes in plain sight is intriguing. Trump is practically daring us to call him out for soliciting foreign influence into our election, which is a crime. I accept the dare. This is a crime.
Justice Gorsuch wore no mask during oral argument yesterday, the only justice to openly defy the rules, on a day they were considering Covid cases. After all, who’s going to make him? The focus on “me” over “we” is emblematic of what is wrong with America.
"[Trump is] so attentive to the scientific literature & the details & the data. I think his ability to analyze & integrate data that comes out of his long history in business has really been a real benefit” -- this is shocking, hackish stuff from Dr. Birx.
Now that judge has found Trump engaged in massive asset inflation scheme to obtain loans and insurance, I am even more puzzled as to why US Attorney’s Office in SDNY walked away from it. Bank fraud is a federal criminal offense.
Second Amendment does not forbid banning assault weapons. Even Scalia wrote in Heller that the right is not absolute, and does not permit possession of any gun “whatsoever.” We already ban machine guns without running afoul of Second Amendment. We could ban assault weapons, too.
Prep for Thanksgiving dinner with crazy relative. Repeat after me: bribery occurs when a public official DEMANDS a thing of value in exchange for the performance of an official act. Crime is complete even if the thing is not provided nor the act performed. Please pass the turkey.
Hey, Mueller, look over here.
@Maddow
has found the collusion. Follow the sanctions. If this whole cable news show thing doesn’t work out for you, Rachel, you have a real future in the FBI.
Wrong, wrong, wrong. In a court of law, there is no trial until there is an investigation. That occurs behind closed doors. Only after a grand jury votes to indict is there a public trial. We are still in the investigative stage. No mistrial, no taint, no due process violation.
In a court of law, this would be declared a mistrial. This impeachment charade has been a tainted process from the start.
Schiff has spent weeks blocking due process & leaking misleading info to the liberal media to fit his phony narrative.
Their resolution codifies this sham.
Judge Ellis calls

‘s guidelines range “quite high.“ The guidelines are based on data from other cases, and are high here only because the conduct was so egregious. Why are the guidelines considered too high only when the defendant is wealthy and powerful?
Trump’s claim to Bill O’Reilly, that he did not send Giuliani to Ukraine, directly contradicts his phone conversation with Ukrainian president on July 25. Consciousness of guilt much?
It pains me to see Chief Justice Roberts preside over this sham, but Senate majority calls the shots. Republicans are blocking witnesses and documents to conceal the truth.
Newly released documents in Flynn case are not “Brady” material, defined as evidence favorable to the accused that is material to guilt or punishment. Flynn’s crime was lying to the FBI. Agent notes about interview strategy do not negate Flynn’s lie.
Due process requires notice and an opportunity to be heard. Donald Trump has received both. It is frustrating to watch lawyers twist our Constitution into a shield for an abuser of power
Unreal. this should be a code red alarm. Trump has summarily removed Glenn Fine, the universally well respected IG who was tabbed to oversee his administration's management of the $2 trillion stimulus package. Deep deep rot.
“I want you to use my words against me. If there’s a Republican president in 2016 and a vacancy occurs in the last year of the first term, you can say Lindsey Graham said let’s let the next president, whoever it might be, make that nomination."
Odd that (1)
#Mueller
would reach no conclusion on obstruction and (2) AG would decide the issue for him. This defeats the whole purpose of a special counsel, which is to avoid conflicts of interest by those in the executive branch chain of command.
Berman’s gutsy move succeeded. He may be gone, but his deputy, Audrey Strauss, will lead SDNY instead of Barr’s lackey. Trump will be unable to get anyone else confirmed. Berman preserved integrity of his office and exposed Barr’s bullying tactics. He won’t be unemployed for long
CNN confirms:
@AmbJohnBolton
has struck a deal to write a book for Simon & Schuster, per sources w/ knowledge of the deal. Both sides declined to comment. Full story with
@JDiamond1
Brilliant tactical move by DOJ on selecting statutes for the search. None of the crimes cited require the documents to be classified. Any claim by Trump that he declassified the documents is irrelevant. I’ll discuss at 7 am ET on
@MSNBC
.
Trump mocks
@RepDebDingell
and her late husband
@JohnDingell
because she voted to impeach even after Trump permitted state funeral. He expected to buy her vote. How can this vulgar and unethical man be our president?
Trump laments that Debbie Dingell voted to impeach him despite the fact that he allowed the normal state funeral to proceed for her late husband, former Rep. John Dingell. Trump then suggests John Dingell is in hell -- to audible groans.
DOJ lawyers of integrity will be tempted to resign over today’s motion to dismiss the Flynn case. My advice is to please stay. We need you instead of those who might replace you.
And when crazy relative says where’s the harm, you say: Congress approved aid to help fight Russia, which invaded and still occupies Ukraine. Delay in aid harmed our national security, compromised our ability to fight corruption and damaged our credibility with allies. More pie?
The US national archives - the supposed official record and repository of the nation - is now blurring and censoring historic moments? erasing/editing history to appease the powerful or placate the easily offended. History is what it is.
Drafters of impeachment articles, remember that soliciting election interference and withholding military aid are violations of law even without quid pro quo. With quid pro quo, we also have bribery. And don’t forget contempt of Congress for “fighting all the subpoenas.”
The New York City Bar Association has written to Congressional leaders “in response to continuing actions by Attorney General William P. Barr that raise the most serious questions about Mr. Barr’s fitness for the high office that he holds.”
Taxpayers should not be funding this defense for alleged conduct occurring in Trump’s personal capacity and before he was president. DOJ is way out of line here.
The Justice Department is seeking to take over the defense of President Trump in defamation suit brought by advice columnist E. Jean Carroll, who claims Trump raped her two decades ago.
Here are my principal conclusions:
1. Attorney General Barr has deliberately misrepresented Mueller’s report.
2. President Trump has engaged in impeachable conduct.
3. Partisanship has eroded our system of checks and balances.
4. Few members of Congress have read the report.
Meanwhile, remember when DOJ argued that Trump was acting within the scope of his employment when he allegedly defamed E. Jean Carroll? Her lawyers fired back today, and it’s scorching.
"There is not a single person in the United States—not the President and not anyone else—whose job description includes slandering women they sexually assaulted."

's case against Donald Trump
Even without witnesses, House Managers are brilliantly weaving together a compelling case with video clips. These witnesses may not be enough to tell every ugly detail of this scandal, but they are enough to make the case.
Throwing in a “I hook up with models” joke in the middle of a press conference involving hundreds of thousands of people dying, and blaming people who collect data, is a different type of leadership.
How could Ross possibly think it was ok to serve on the board of a Chinese joint venture while also serving as US Secretary of Commerce? When I became US Attorney, I had to resign from my kids’ elementary school PTO.
Exclusive: Wilbur Ross served on the board of a Chinese joint venture until 2019. In other words, while helping run the Trade War, the Commerce Secretary was partnered with a Chinese state-owned enterprise. Thread on this massive conflict of interest.
The FBI has agents and legal attaches for this purpose. Treaties permit them to work with their authorized law enforcement counterparts to obtain evidence. No legitimate reason to send a private lawyer like Giuliani to Ukraine to investigate crime.
Trump on Giuliani's latest visit to Ukraine: "He’s going to make a report, I think to the attorney general and to Congress. He says he has a lot of good information."
This is such a cynical stunt. Republicans are part of the committee that is hearing the testimony. This is the investigation stage, not the trial. Criminal investigations are not public like trials. Stop trying to mislead and distract the public.
The Ukraine matter seems to have broken through with the public in a way the Russia scandal never could. The Mueller investigation was like an onion with too many layers. This one is more like a rotten tomato - everyone can understand that it stinks.
This is not about Trump protecting his friends. This is about Trump protecting Trump. Keep your mouth shut and you’ll be taken care of. This is how monsters roll.
How to improve toothless SCOTUS ethics code: Former IRS agent Martin Sheil suggests requiring justices to submit their tax returns to IRS for audit, just as president must. Violations can be referred for impeachment or prosecution. More here. 👇
It is hard to believe that we can still find new things to be outraged about in this administration, but changing an agency website to conform to Jared’s disinformation is an outrage.
When things go wrong, assess your options and take action. If Roe is overruled, options include supporting pro-choice candidates, lobbying businesses to leave states, filing lawsuits under 1st, 9th, 14th Ams, challenging laws under state Constitutions. What other ideas are there?
We can’t take anyone seriously who refers to the Democratic Party as the “Democrat” Party. Such conduct reveals the speaker to be a propagandist. And no American is mourning Soleimani. Asking questions about motive and strategy is not the same as mourning.
Rep Collins thinks facts are disputed if he disputes them. Disputed facts mean WITNESSES dispute them. This is not disputing facts. This is ignoring facts.
I can remember a time when we used to chuckle a bit when the FBI asked us during background checks of our colleagues whether they had ever advocated for the overthrow of the United States because it seemed so absurd. No one is laughing now.
