Our research was published today in science!.We developed single-molecule tension sensors based on DNA overstretching and measured the rate of cellular force increase using these sensors.

The cell shape, or cytoskeletal structure, is thus not predetermined by cell type, but is highly regulatable by the type of ligand outside the cell.

Integrin proteins mediate cell-cell or cell-ECM interactions. Here we show that two subtypes of integrin (RGD-binding and LDVP binding integrins) employ dramatically different mechanotransduction mechanisms for cell spreading.
