This is why everyone should be demanding equitable data access as compensation from the data aggregato.... errrr I mean streaming services. There is no streaming rate solution. The only just compensation is data so small artists can be empowered to develop their businesses.
This is the paradox of small: more artists can reach global audiences and drive sizeable streaming metrics but have little or no realistic prospect of meaningful income. https://t.co/EM8Z5AEqtY

Kanye's Nazi merch still on sale in a Shopify store @harleyf . Past time to give a shit.
@JeremiahPrummer @Shopify @eganc @activerecorder We really really give a shit. Also I wanna be clear that it’s not that we don’t make mistakes, as of course we do, but no one will care more about fixing those when we find them. That’s our real culture.

Just for the handful of people I know lurked and engaged. I was pretty much done here after a year of horrors and apathy on Gaza. There’s no way I’m mainlining what’s to come. If I’m on a thing it’s @muckymann But I think I’m just gonna read some books for a bit.

The Founders never anticipated that American education would go backwards, or that American citizens would become as intellectually and morally lazy as the person in this video. Democracy won't work with citizens who refuse to grow up or think critically. https://t.co/kWroCXqGb2

This is a great thread and symptomatic of something that seems preposterously difficult to establish as fact There are lots, and lots, of people who are bad at thinking. They, plus the bad people manipulating them, and the legit failures of modernity, have gotten us in this mess
I'm glad I don't have to write an endorsement piece, because I really wouldn't know how to go about it. Ever since 2015, when Trump descended the escalator, I have had the same feeling, which I've never quite seen articulated, so I will briefly try:

I remember biking a few miles to my friend’s house because I was bored and he had a satellite that picked up Much Music. This video came on and I distinctly remember saying to him, “This is the coolest possible band” lol

CITY VENUE DATE whatever other shit you want on there but much smaller. If your tour poster doesn't look like that you are doing it wrong. If your tour ad doesn't look like that, or WORSE, is a list of all the dates, you are really doing it wrong.

There is nothing “news” can do to recover trust. A population that scores 50% under grade 6 reading levels was manipulated every step through the Information Age into thinking information can’t be trusted. There’s no editorial solution to that.
Jeff Bezos speaks: "While I do not and will not push my personal interest, I will also not allow this paper to stay on autopilot and fade into irrelevance — overtaken by unresearched podcasts and social media barbs — not without a fight."

In 1958, Hannah Arendt warned about dangerous technologists. Does any of this sound familiar?

When I wrote a history of Americans’ weakness for exciting untruths and called it Fantasyland, I wondered: over the top? But now the GOP claims immigrants steal pets to eat them and schools secretly perform transgender surgery on kids and Democrats aim hurricanes at Republicans.

If more people just said “I like tax cuts and would vote for a leopard to eat your face if it meant tax cuts,” at least things would be somewhat rational around here.

Remember everyone BC Liberals were the Conservative’s. Our country is dumb enough to chase tribe titles, but this would be the laziest and dumbest thing I can imagine short of the federal liberals renaming themselves “Fuck Trudeau” kicking off a 20 year dynasty.
I am a proud Liberal voter, registered Liberal, and former Liberal Premier. The Prime Minister has earned the right to make any decision about his leadership on his own - the position of leader is not open. Right now, we all need to be focused on uniting Canadians and working

Took me longer than necessary but just cracked Meta ads API export of campaign details, so in a few days I will have years of cost per Listener, Follower, etc data. Will it be exciting or very depressing? Stay tuned

If you gave 16 year old me a day on Twitter of today I think the only thing that would really surprise him is the Nazis being back and how many newsletters there are. Which goes to show he was smarter than me because somehow I'm still surprised.

This is not just a misinformation crisis. We are living through a full-scale assault on anyone who lives in reality: weathermen, scientists, first responders, doctors. from @cwarzel

What’s happening in America today is something darker than a misinformation crisis.

Sometimes I dream of fixing it. But that would require having a merch sales and distribution company. I consulted with one big one to see if I could fix this in partnership with them. It did not work. Too many cooks. I really, really don't want to start a merch company.
