Lysosome-dependent turnover of membrane phospholipids providing a means to recycle fatty acids at a time when mTORC1 and SREBP-mediated de novo synthesis of fatty acids is attenuated. Still do not know the precise molecular mechanism, but involves membrane delivery to lysosomes.

Aaron used unbiased lipidomics to determine what happens to intracellular lipid species when mTORC1 is inhibited and landed on an observation similar to that reported previously by @OlzmannLab - however the changes we see do not depend on autophagy.

If any scientists are left on this platform, it is my pleasure to share the work of Aaron Hosios from our group, who found that mTOR inhibition leads to phospholipid catabolism and adaptive repurposing of the fatty acids for energy storage or production.

Truth-oblivious, rumor-mongering toxicity notwithstanding, the potential loss of this venue to communicate and celebrate science and the joy of being a scientist is sad.
