Dr. Rhonda Patrick and Dr. Peter Attia just set the record straight on protein recommendations. It's the best synopsis of "why you should hedge against more protein versus less" that I've heard. My recap 🧵👇

Saying bacon is a great potassium source is like saying peanut butter is a great protein source. You have to eat 10 slices of bacon (~450 calories) to get the same amount of potassium as 1 medium banana (~100 calories). Alternatively, eat half an avocado same potassium 🥑

The most f—ed up thing is the tens of thousands of mothers now wracked by needless guilt for taking acetaminophen. And thousands more currently pregnant women living in terror because they took it. Wanton cruelty inflicted on people who are already vulnerable. And for what?

Muscle is an endocrine organ. Building muscle & focusing on muscle health is one of the best ways to go from prediabetes to no diabetes. Approach it from both sides, nutrition & resistance training. You don't have to eat/train (or inject) like a body builder to get benefits.

Two clients, same day, similar story...both on metformin, both no family doc, both with clinically low B12. These are simple things that should be caught way earlier. How, or who, bridges the gap between virtual docs and adequate follow ups for known deficiency risks?

Exercising 150 minutes per week for 4 months is equally as effective as taking an antidepressant for depression, review finds. Get outside and get moving. Start small and easy. For many, a walk is enough when you are starting.

GLP-1 drugs are game-changers—but the game doesn't end with pounds lost. Without strategies to preserve lean mass, you risk compromising metabolism, function, and long-term success. That’s why building muscle—and safeguarding it—is a critical piece of the GLP-1 story, not just a

You don’t always need to feel good to get going. Sometimes you need to get going to give yourself a chance at feeling good. So much of life comes down to a gentle yet firm persistence to show up and get started on the things that matter to you.

>57% below RDA (which is already too low), wild. Even more likely below the now recommended 1.2-1.6 g/kg/d. Once you start noticing how little protein people are actually eating in real life, it's hard to ignore!

🚨 Study of 5,790 older men (~74 y) found that low protein intake—regardless of source—was linked to higher all-cause mortality. 📉 Each 2.9% drop in protein (% of energy) = 9% ↑ risk of death. ⚠️ Cancer mortality especially elevated. 📄 DOI: 10.1007/s12603-020-1422-4

Step count shows an inverse relationship with mortality. The largest benefits are seen with ~7000 steps/day, but risks continued to decrease to a smaller extent w/every additional 1000 steps/day up 12 000 steps/day (the highest # analyzed). https://t.co/LKDzgiPxbd

Although 10 000 steps per day can still be a viable target for those who are more active, 7000 steps per day is associated with clinically meaningful improvements in health outcomes and might be a...
