This sequence is “The Vivek” 1. Dumb trade to clear cap space for a dumber move (Jonas/Saric) 2. Dumb overpay signing (Schroeder) 3. Undermined ASAP w/ next move (Russ) Then… 4. 2nd dumb trade to fix original dumb move (Hunter) 5. Lost an asset (Ellis) 6. Less cap space

It’ll take years for Scott Perry to undo the mess that Monte, Wes, and Vivek left. By that time, Scott will be over it or Vivek will get impatient. Lather. Rinse. Repeat.

The Sacramento Kings really said, “We want a first-round pick for Keon Ellis” Then turned around and said, “Actually, we’ll take no picks and a bad contract instead, while saving you $44M of luxury tax.”

Scott Perry traded for Šarić. He picked Ellis option which made him a UFA instead of RFA and he prioritized and signed Schroder to a terrible contract. He just traded them all away, sending out a second rounder in order to receive Hunter and increase tax payments

Kings traded a good backup PG, a good rotational wing, and two second rounds picks for a bad contract? The hell?

Ever since Perry was hired the refrain has been "He inherited this mess, it'll take time to clean it up" Well guess what? Right now Perry isn't using assets to clean up Monte or Vivek's mess. He's doing to to clean up HIS OWN mistakes. Keon and Schroder are on Perry. Full stop

Oh and I hope nobody is buying the "we cleared roster spots" bullshit to justify the trade. Kings have McDermott and Eubanks both picking their noses on the bench on minimum deals, you can easily clear roster spots by waiving either one (or both).

- picked up Keon's option instead of declining it to make him a restricted free agent - gave Schroder $15 million annually using MLE instead of using it to pay Keon - tank both Schroder and Keon's value by mid-November - attach Keon with Schroder to offload his contract

I DO have questions tho: Why turn away a 26 year old perimeter plus defender shooting 40% from 3 on a team devoid of assets? There’s a reason smart teams wanted him. They KNEW Keon was gone and had to move him for something, I get it- but how did we get here?

The Kings and Bulls are just out here doing charity work for the smart teams. First they give the Spurs that 2031 pick swap to take on Harrison Barnes. Then they get to together to get De'Aaron Fox to San Antonio. Now they team up to make the Cavs better AND save them money.

I just find it funny that the Spurs, the Celtics and the Cavs, three of the smartest teams in the NBA, were banging down Sacramento's door like "we want Keon Ellis!" and the Kings, apparently ignorant of everything that's happened to them since 2007, were cool giving him away.

De’Andre Hunter would help balance out Sacramento’s roster and make them slightly better this year and next but what’s the point of that? I’m not a huge fan of his game and think the Kings shouldn’t be trying to chase the play-in next season.
