We're up to 23 different "Away" action plays from LA through 2 games with normal personnel on-court (& 38 total): - 1.07 ePPP (elite possession quality) - 61% of shots have been open (elite) - 44% of shots have been at the rim (elite) Good early success from a go-to series.

Here's how LA used it on the 16 plays they did. 🟣 77 action using both guys 🟡 Hit the shooter -> turn corner or rescreen 🟣 Hit the elbow -> Chicago or a flip back 🟡 If the action was overplayed -> cut backdoor and flow to Stack, Gut Chicago, or pass & chase into other action

Filtering our Leaderboards Tool by Offensive Role can provide some unique context and interesting insights. Let’s utilize it to look at Secondary Ball Handlers who don’t have Primary BH or Shot Creator responsibilities and how they’ve impacted the game in the different areas of

Sets in general declined ~every month throughout the year. Looking at Stack specifically, it was used an average of 2.7 times per game last preseason. Here's every game under JJ, including pre and post-seasons. These past 2 games stand out.

It's been generating good looks! 1.10 ePPP. And 71% Coverage Fit. They've generated 1.22 expected points per possession with good coverage fit (vs 0.82 ePPP with poor fit). And I'd say there's meat left on the bone between execution & personnel used. https://t.co/sBNqI5kLg7

LA ran stack sets ELEVEN times in game 2 against Golden State. That ties a Lakers high under JJ Redick. 2 of the 3 games LA has used this concept most under Redick have been their last 2 games. This is a huge development for what was a huge hole in the scheme last season.

LA ran Stack ball screens 10 times vs Phoenix. 9 Stack Up (back screen) and 1 roll & replace. The team surpassed running stack 10 times in just ONE of their 93 games last year. It can become a go-to drop beater. Here are those 10 plays. Execution was mixed but I see potential.

Vincent off-screen usage instead of LaRavia, with both on-court, seemed noteworthy. I wonder if that’ll continue

Oh my lord he did it like 4 times this past game. Between this and his off-screen pre and post-catch decision making, I truly don't know what he worked on this offseason. Where's the development?

The biggest takeaway I have about LA's half court offense last game is there was too much of it. LA wasn't getting much at all in transition from an opportunity standpoint.

A couple plays later there's another whiff on the back screen and it kills the play -> blocked pull-up attempt

Knecht still isn't screening well for teammates on plays where he's about to be the scoring threat a few seconds later. It's making his teammates less open and making himself less open on the ensuing action.

Here are 2 back to back stack sets in Q2 from preseason G2 from LA to attack drop coverage coverage. Knecht didn't get a piece of Hayes' man in either but each still worked.

Bonus Pod Alert! A pod detailing how LA's offense, defense, and rotation will need to shift with LeBron out short-term is up. I got as granular as coverages, alignments, sets, & actions you'd use more/less with him out + players that'll see the biggest jump in opportunity.

Reminder for the *general* approach with help beaters: If the defense overloads INSIDE the paint, use screens to keep them inside and unable to close out to 3-point shooters via pin-in flare screens. If the defense aligns AROUND the paint, hit cutters to the middle of the paint

Help Beater Alert! A nice pin-in flare here from Ayton and Vando sort of sealing his man off (RED) is a good counter to the weak lurking extra help (YELLOW). Rui (GREEN) is open if this is thrown. Ayton's signaling with his hand (BLUE). LaRavia splashes a tough middy instead

For the post/iso ball plays we had: Ayton post up and a short middy missed contested hook shot (not good) Davis iso blow by shooting foul drawn (excellent) Vando iso blow by dump off for Hayes stonewalled at the rim (not good)

27 threes at the half Overall think most of those are good looks. It did get sloppy with execution in the 2nd quarter
