How to change suicide risk management in clinical care after recent @NCISH_UK studies? •routine enquiry re online risk, dom violence, anniversaries •enquiry about opiates in bathroom cabinet •stop using risk ass tools •stop excluding suicidal patients on grounds of capacity.

In our new report @NCISH_UK, we show suicides by patients diagnosed with personality disorder to be rising. Many have multiple risk factors but downgrading of risk persists because of spurious beliefs re capacity, impulsiveness, “behaviour”. These ideas are costing lives.

Plea to journalists writing about suicide. 6000 people/yr die by suicide in UK. 6000 families devastated. Suicide is not a catchy headline or way to score political points. Check figures, think about language, take advice, be responsible - what you write can add to risk.
