No fruit bats are not magic animals that do not suffer disease consequences of bacterial and viral infections (pathology studies like these are very painstaking to perform)

I couldn't have ended the year with a better gift than to be able to broadly share the main story of my PhD work, recently published in @PNASNews. We found that #PCF11 associates with #WDR82 to silence HIV-1 in latently infected cells. Full article ➡️ https://t.co/9ZwbC5MnO4

Why HIV-2 infection reduces HIV-1 pathogenesis in dual-infected patients? HIV-2 blocks HIV-1 through a) an interferon response; b) an HIV1-specific block conferred by HIV-2 TAR, suppressing HIV-1 transcription by stalling RNApol II at the promoter https://t.co/FxQH0lxHLr
