The 100 mph fastball is the only acceptable answer—location is specified, and it’s elite. The 88 mph slider? No location = Stuff+ weighted by median command of guys who throw that shape (probably around 37th percentile). The specified cheese at 100 with known location value.
A pitcher throws these pitches:.What’s the hardest to hit?. - 100 mph FB knee high down and away.- 88 mph SL with about 1 ft nasty break.- 74 mph CH with nasty arm side sink.

Probably read as biased back in July — but I think this is a good time to resurface it. We’re officially in a bull market for Shane Bieber.
Not all uncertainty is created equal. Shane Bieber hasn’t thrown a big league inning in over a year and just came off TJ — but I don’t think his projection is murky at all. The main things that held him back in 2023 were:. -Fastball velocity.-Curveball shape.-Changeup upside

Add flights, housing, Ubers, and time away from friends — I’m not clearly worth the excess in travel costs and logistics. Better to trust what the market is telling me, and just minimize those extra costs until the ROI makes sense.

Past 45 days I basically ran a one-man Airbnb x Uber x Pitching service — housed ~5 college pitchers at different times, drove them, coached them. Absurd setup, but it solved rental cars, housing, and gas.

I feel like I make this tweet every year — 38 y/o Caleb Thielbar just set a velocity PR at 95.7. At this rate he’s on pace to be touching 98 by the time he’s eligible for an AARP card.
