This is something I think about with kids still in school. And the old days, students were rewarded based on memory recall. Today, memory recall is less valuable. Schools were platforms that helped society sort talents. How will the sorting happen tomorrow?

Make the universities liable for student loans. Will see a change in behavior very quickly.
Our federal student loan system is allowing financially iIIiterate students in their early 20s to take on up to $200,000+ in debt. And that debt cannot be discharged in bankruptcy. These degrees often have a pathway to very mediocre careers of $40K/year.

Interesting take.
Possibly my bleakest take (that I hope is wrong) is that governments all suck now because nuclear weapons prevent war, or even the credible threat of war, between major powers. So thereโs no external/evolutionary/market pressure on governments to not suck.
