I don't think you can realistically blame Bezos for WaPo losing $100M a year. I think the only reason WaPo still exists at all is because it has Bezos as a benefactor.
I tried to write an honest analysis of what happened at @washingtonpost. Yes, Jeff Bezos deserves a big share of the blame. But it was a series of dumb decisions -- and a refusal to take risks -- over a 20-year period that led to what happened Wednesday.

Hey @grok is The Nation website profitable?
always bears repeating that this is NOT ultimately a financial decision. jeff bezos is worth over 250 billion dollars. he can afford to lose many millions and never even notice it. this is, at its core, a political and personal decision by bezos to destroy the post

Sure, Jeff Bezos *could* do a lot of things. But why *would* he keep staff that cost WaPo do much money and contribute to $100M in annual losses?
If Jeff Bezos could afford to spend $75 million on the Melania movie & $500 million for a yacht to sail off to his $55 million wedding to give his wife a $5 million ring, please don't tell me he needed to fire one-third of the Washington Post staff. Democracy dies in oligarchy.

I don’t know if Jessica doesn’t understand English, but he’s explaining he doesn’t want legal aliens voting, which seems like a perfectly reasonable position to have. He straight up telling you he wants more secure elections not less. I guess nothing matters.

Don Lemon in this analogy is the guy going along with the Klan and filming as they firebomb a church.
@SwannMarcus89 Are you seriously arguing that a journalist who embedded with civil-rights protesters in the 1960s while they planned acts of civil disobedience and then accompanied them to cover those acts of civil disobedience could be prosecuted for doing so?

Hey @elonmusk can we get little country flags next to usernames on X? I just want a heads up when I’m reading a lecture on the U.S. Constitution from someone whose country banned butter knives.

@alanedmund No, it was not legal for any of the protesters to be in the church that day once they were asked to leave. And them being asked to leave is on video.

This is poor logic. Since MN won't give up arrested illegal aliens to ICE, they instead are giving ICE a great excuse for raids - where secondary arrests can happen. If he wants to protect "undocumented", he should ask why MN isn't keeping the heat off the "good" ones?
@shipwreckedcrew But, you're asking us to believe that if MN released jailed criminals into DHS custody, they would not also go looking for other undocumented?

Why do you oppose the lawful enforcement of America's long-standing bipartisan immigration laws?
I just got off a call with a friend in minneapolis I didn’t understand how bad the situation is right now, I don’t think any of us outside MSP do they were patrolling outside her window as I was talking to her there are thousands of them she (a white woman) now carries her

THIS IS AN ABJECT LIE. The child was ABANDONED by his father, a criminal illegal alien from Ecuador, who fled from our officers. Our officers ensured the child was SAFE. Does your heart also ache for the thousands of families who have lost loved ones to violent, criminal
Enforcing the law is one thing. Terrorizing a population, using children as pawns, is another. My heart aches for Liam Ramos and his family. https://t.co/Y1pkUvBilT

@MayorFrey The difference is that the ICE agent didn't commit a crime and Nekima Armstrong did.
